The only other truly singularly dedicated type of car outside of drag racing is absolute LSR racing, like Bloodhound SSC. Every other type of motorsport has to be flexible enough to handle tracks of different sizes, configurations, and even paved versus dirt.

Agreed. I've watched a water bottle vibrate across a bleacher seat when they went by. It goes so far beyond just "loud" that it crosses over into raw violence.

I drove an earlier diesel C belonging to a friend of ours a couple of times. Coming form an Omega B of the same vintage, it was quite an experience, everything was just so dark, hard and noisy, it felt like I was going twice as fast. But on the upside I didn't even notice the fuel gauge move during the day I was running errands with it. So it's probably a decent economical shitbox, all things considered.
