I've heard a lot of stuff about Corbyn not supporting "The English" from people. I notice VERY few people around me refer to themselves as British now too, the same goes for when you're door knocking. It was definitely more of a thing in Stoke than in Copeland. Dunno what you can really do about that. Nationalism is a disease. I've always considered myself European above all else so I guess my identity is buggered either way.

I don't really think too much about national identity. I would rather we stayed in the UK but I don't think that necessarily means I feel more British than Irish or even Northern Irish. I suppose I am mainly Northern Irish in the sense that I am primarily concerned with what the best arrangement for Northern Ireland would be, whether it's in Ireland or the UK, but I don't know what "Northern Irishness" is as a distinct identity and I'm not sure anyone else does. Perhaps the defining characteristic of Northern Irishness is arguing over whether it means you're British or Irish.

Yes, this is especially terrifying since things like facts, proof, evidence and living in reality doesn't matter to these people. In their minds 'anti English' sentiment is the most dominant form of prejudice in the UK, the government is trying to destroy 'English identity' and Corbyn is an English hating foreigner lover. It feels like nothing you can do or say will disuade people from this nonsense...

To go off track, if you'll recall the murder of a Polish man in Harlow last year, on Saturday a large mural by a Polish artist was unveiled there, in an attempt to build positive relations in the area. Naturally within hours it had been vandalised. "We are all in the same boat" indeed.

What the IRA did is wrong but we killed far more many Irish, including children, during our occupation of Ireland. The fact that people in this country only care about the BRITISH victims (because only Brits matter) and won't acknowledge the criminal past of their country sickens me. Cunts, the lot of them.

I keep getting phoned and texted about the Gorton by-election. Tried to google some of the candidates' policies, none of them loving got one. Even Khan, who has a decent enough website (and called me personally) tells me who he is, where he's from, but not what he wants. I've got his financial statements from the European Parliaments, but I have no idea what he or any others from the clown car want. Am I misunderstanding the purpose of an MP, or is that kind of a dumb thing that none of them has a list of... "Climate: needs protecting by doing X. Economy: Tories are stupid, we need devolved budgets to limit the damage/need to raise taxes/need to use Excalibur to summon the Isle of Fairies and sell fairy gold to the EU" sort of thing? Like, I'm not opposed to do some research in order to get informed but other than Guido Fawkes telling me Khan is totally a nazi because he criticised Israel... There's gently caress all I can find.

MPs generally follow the party line, they don't have individual manifestos typically AIUI.

Then how do I choose one from the bunch, if they're all carefully tailored to have.. no personality other than Politics(r) Brand Natural Human Warmth (no artificial colours). Khan's the one who appears to have been consistently keeping up with people, reporting what he's doing and requesting information and doing something resembling data-driven policy... but "I know this one!" seems like a bad way of picking your representative. I want to base my decisions on facts, not feelings.

I would suggest voting against the tories would be sensible but I'm afraid there's not much you can do if all the candidates are poo poo in an indirect democracy, other than drawing a big spunking cock on the ballot. (as always don't do this if UKIP is standing, counts as clear preference)

The constituency party will have organised at least one hustings meeting too. Although if you've only recently joined that advice might be no use to you. But "I am not qualified to make this decision" is as good a reason as any to abstain. Individual MPs don't have power to enact their own policy, and since they'll be taking the party whip they've very limited scope to assert their own positions on the major issues, like your devolved budgets example. A detailed policy manifesto would probably be quite pointless.

Guido's now calling them Khomenists which is hilarious wordplay and his usual brand of bullshit. He's a fat white tory hack who needs lynching. Khan is the MEP and most experienced of the lot. Yasmine Dar is backed by momentum and the only corbyn supporter. Luthfer Rahman isn't *that* Luthfer Rahman, he's the one who attacks people in mosques. Very right wing, dumb as all gently caress. Lone didn't make the final cut to run in Morecambe, Ali is a stalking horse who appears to have deleted his twitter (or I've lost it). It's basically Khan (massive favourite, right wing for labour without punching people in mosques, loves CETA/TTIP) vs Dar (only corbyn supporter).

Not a particularily terrible one, but if you aren't concerned with the corbyn stuff then his biggest problem is CETA/TTIP and they don't matter anymore. Beyond that he has a good CV of working on muslim community issues in the EU with left and centre left groups. If he was a socialist I'd vote for him. Yasmine Dar is a social worker who's worked for Rethink and independent police advice boards (lol). Her CV is impressive but it's not political and I can't find poo poo on her policy positions. 2017 is grand.
