People hated Filmon for hallway medicine, privatizing MTS, Filmon Friday's etc. Yet Pallister gets elected with basically the same platform? For your first question I feel like the hate for Selinger combined with the fact he wasn't doing anything immediate about ~the deficit~ did the NDP in. CFS in Manitoba is an absolute mess, healthcare is okay, but wait times are among the worst in the country that combined with the PST increase, you expect better results if you are deficit spending to keep everything afloat. If Oswald had won the leadership in 2015 I think we would have at least an NDP minority, a fresh face along with some promises to right the ship would have gone a long way for increasing support for the party. The only reason I can draw this conclusion is Pallister is still really really unpopular despite winning the election and doing all the things he said he would. People were just tired of Selinger.

Trickle down economics is the stupidest theory, and I can't believe how many proponents it still has after the massive accumulation of wealth in the hands of the rich that we've seen over the past 40 years. Socialism fails because "people are lazy" but trickle economics works because "rich people aren't greedy" Ya ok then

BC Greens are in favour of Uber and could conceivably pick up 1-3 seats on Vancouver Island which, if those polls are correct (lol) would turn an NDP majority to a minority. So uh yeah it could change things. Uber and the BC Greens are both bad in case it seemed like I was in favour of either of those things.

Now that the event centre referendum is over in Nanaimo, the local political groups now seem to be filling with a ton of pro-NDP, mostly anti-Liberal posts. It just feels excessive given Nanaimo seems to unlikely to swing Liberal.

Cerepol posted:What did the PCs do to BC that is some super low support The BC Liberal party is in no way related to the federal Liberals. When Vander Zalm tanked the Socreds in the early 90's, they all defected and took over the Liberal party from Gordon Wilson and remade it in their own image. On how Vander Zalm tanked the party see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Vander_Zalm#Provincial_Premier quote:Vander Zalm became embroiled in a conflict of interest controversy over the sale of his Fantasy Gardens flower garden and theme park. The conflict of interest arose because the Taiwanese buyer, Tan Yu, was provided VIP treatment and lunch with the Lieutenant-Governor prior to the sale. Vander Zalm claimed that control over the theme park was his wife's responsibility. Adding fuel to the fire, Faye Leung, a colourful Chinese-Canadian entrepreneur and the woman who brokered the deal, thought that Vander Zalm was a "bad man" since the day she first met him and secretly recorded conversations she had with him, and was happily willing to speak to the media and provide copies of her audio tapes. BC Greens constantly attack the NDP, they almost never criticize the Liberals, and they even actively help the Libs and take their side a lot of the time. Anyone who's still a BC Lib supporter is unlikely to swing to us but there's a chance we could win over some prog Green supporters by highlighting exactly how much you're stabbing yourself in the dick if you're a prog who votes for them I mean I get what you're trying to say here but this is serious poo poo man and the Greens are not our friends. The BC liberals are just the federal liberals but they don't bother dressing up their right wing policies in progressive language. They're swimming in enough developer money to not give a poo poo what the average idiot thinks, and the BCNdp are so useless they don't actually present much of a major threat to them.

Voters are extremely stupid and will vote for the incumbents if things are good and vote for anyone else if they think things could be better. It doesn't matter if things are good despite the party in power, or that things are bad due to the world economy or the moon falling into the earth.
