Train to Busan and Pandora both show me that korea is more than capable of making blockbusters that stand up to their hollywood couterparts.

I've only ever seen a few clips of 30 Rock before like googling yourself and "It's after 6, what am I a farmer?". Pleased to find after I started watching it yesterday that the farmer one is in season 1 and also the same episode that Aubrey Plaza had her first acting gig.

I think Chapelle is the only comic that can laugh at his own jokes repeatedly and have the act cone off being better for it. Anyway, yes, these specials are fantastic. I liked the first one a lot more, but this maybe have been a function of me being to drunk by the the time I got to the second one.

I finished Love season 2 and gently caress Mickey. That finale was amazing. While he's an entitled rear end in a top hat, I feel for Dustin. He's an rear end in a top hat about Gus, but he's trying to be a better dude to get his ex-girlfriend back, even if it's for selfish reasons. It's not his fault that Mickey used him as an outlet for her addiction, and it's not like he's aware of her road to recovery.

Stalking your gently caress buddy, impersonating her friend in order to get her location when she doesn't want you to know it, chasing her around the park, impersonating her boyfriend's friend in order to get his apartment number, pushing your way into said apartment and refusing to leave, are super hosed up reactions to an obviously unstable woman acting in an unstable fashion. There's not enough side dick in the world to give that whole series of events a pass.

Yeah, his actions are hosed up, but he's also being fueled by a terrible therapist who is adding to this delusional behavior and justifying his entitlement. In his delusional mind, he's ready to get married and have a family, and Mickey is the person that would be the best partner for his as of now (ideas also fueled by his therapist). While he totally used the dying dog as a way to get back to Mickey, she's throwing gas on the fire because she has to sabotage her success to recovery. He's aware that Mickey's loving over Gus, but he's working from the logic that he and Mickey have a longer history together, and she's his future wife, so what if the nerd gets his feelings hurt, they've known each other for less than 2 months, and Mickey's not really defending their relationship, or even willing to call it a relationship. His actions aren't justifiable, he's an rear end in a top hat, but it's not like it comes from a vacuum or he's an rear end in a top hat just for the sake of it.

All of the characters in Love are total scumbags yet utterly believable, it's part of why I like the show so much. The finale with Gillian's ex chasing her around the park and poo poo was 100% freaks and geeks era Apatow schtick too, it was great

He has his moments, but he's had the most positive adjustments so far. Bertie's already lashed out for being pushed around, she just backslides as soon as Mickey does. I wantex them to explore why Gus is even friends with Randy, who is pretty much just all-around terrible.

Randy seems like he would be decently fun to hang with until he's hitting you up for money. They made him way more pathetic for season 2. He was likable enough in Ssn 1.

Mickey had Gus' number when she called him "Midwestern nice" and Gus described himself pretty well when he told her father (paraphrasing) "I'm Catholic, German and Midwestern; super repressed". He thinks he's being a good guy by tamping down his impulses and feelings and never being confrontational, but instead he creates a sustained tension & lingering air of guilt in the relationship that sets Mickey off, because she already feels guilty & suspicious she's loving everything up as a baseline. Part of the reason she goes running to Dustin when she's pissed at Gus is that, even though he's a nasty condescending jerk with a temper, he makes all of his feelings & desires- even the negative ones- known. Gus is super indirect and passive aggressive, which is a kind of abuse in its own right. He's not a scumbag, or even a Nice Guy; he's the kind of jerk who thinks he's not a jerk because he's so passive about it. He also seems to be genuinely trying to be a healthier person (going to al-anon was a big moment for him, not just as a boyfriend but as a person taking responsibility for their interactions as well). They both do, but like in real life it's taking time and it's kind of neat to watch.

Creating a sustained sense of tension and guilt in anyone who gets too emotionally invested in you because you're too concerned with maintaining what is basically a culturally christian persona of a nice and giving person, is scummy, albeit perniciously so. He won't gently caress your friends behind your back or get hooked on drugs, but he will slowly wear you down while making you think it's your fault for being a bad person who can't live up to his unspoken expectations. And he does attempt to address his issues. So does Mickey. Everybody does and it's neat.

A small, but great moment for Gus was when he told Mickey he was sorry after lunch with her dad, because he's realizing that he really doesn't know what the gently caress is right or wrong and just genuinely cares for Mickey. Compared to other arguments they have before and after where neither of them can admit they're wrong or they want to win the fight, it's a nice moment where Gus takes a step back and apologizes because he cares, not because he should or because it's expected.drunken officeparty posted:I stopped watching Love at the Magic Castle episode. Pretty good observations, but I think Gus has been waaaay less of a jerk this season with realizing he's hosed up too and can't help but be taken advantage of. "How do you say 'gently caress you' in Korean?" was another great moment. I can't help but feel like Bertie and Chris are going to have something. They're already teasing the connection, and I could see Randy finding out in the worse way that they're co-mingling. Also, no ones talked about it, but the movie theme songs this season were excellent. While You Were Sleeping was a great moment, and The Cider House... Rules! had me laughing pretty hard Erebus posted:I had no idea Netflix was making an adaptation of Death Note, but.. it certainly is. Adam Wingard, of You're Next and The Guest is directing it. Mickey has also made a ton of progress, even though it doesn't seem that way because her problems are so much more overt and result in more damaging outcomes when she slips. It's slow and messy, but not ugly because it's got that Apatow razzle dazzle that keeps it from being unpleasant. I'm a big fan!

Apparently a lot of this reaction is coming from people who are mad the cast isn't Asian. I get that for something like Akira, but Death Note is a basic fantasy story that could happen anywhere. When Japan remade the movie Ghost I didn't expect them to fill it with white people. It is a little weird that there's a shot in the trailer with the name Kira, though.
