The whole "magic instead of technology" question is far too setting dependent to really give a sweeping decree over how viable fantasy communist peasantry would be in a world that did not experience an industrial revolution. Marx specifically notes the usefulness of capitalism as a means to prime the pump for the inevitable socialist society since it greatly accelerated a lot of technologies that would be essential (or at least highly desirable) for that sort of future. It's a lot easier to imagine a traditional-Eladrin communist utopia than a traditional-Orc one precisely because the former already got access to the technology/spells required to make sure everyone eats and has a decent standard of living.

The Blue Dragons are bourgeois nobles and parasites upon society. The White Dragons are filthy mensheviks who've allied the oppressors, and the Black Dragons are anarchists and the worse of them all, because they're a bunch of splitters and don't have a proper popular mandate, unlike the Red Dragons!

I'm not sure why you're listening to tolkienist propaganda. Orcs have a storied tradition of peaceful cooperation amongst themselves and have long practiced the magical arts:

I can already see it before me. As themes, you have different versions of communism. Like Syndico-Anarchism, or Leninist-Marxism, or Stalinism, or Maosism etc...

Poverty of ideology leads to poverty of design, which in turn leads to poverty of gameplay. Juche is the idea that the gamemaster is the master of everything and decides everything. Establishing Juche means adopting the attitude of a gamemaster towards the revolution and construction of one’s game.

There's a Knights of the Dinner Table strip from like 20 years ago where they go to kill a dragon and take its hoard, only to discover that the dragon understands the concepts of investment and compound interest and is baffled that they'd think he'd just have it in a pile somewhere.

There is Otherverse America which is a lovely liberal hippy heartbreaker for d20 modern of all things. Arguably you could also count the one "the patriarchy is a literal thing and worships a snake god" RPG but it was more a fetish game that pretended to be feminist to deflect criticism. I only know about either of these due to them being reviewed in the FATAL and Friends thread.

Otherverse is d20 because it's a Chris Field book, and apparently d20 rules are one of his many, many fetishes

I wanna be a saikyo HERO!
So, I finally pulled the $10 copy of Eoris Essence I got awhile back off the shelf, and started hacking my way through it. And as I do, I'm kind of surprised it isn't more notorious. Maybe it's because it didn't get as wide distribution as something like Synnibarr inexplicably did, but boy, is it a torrent of self-fellating cosmology and nonsense rules- and, of course, the infamous character sheet. Perhaps it's the fact it used an actual spellchecker and has legitimately good production values (even if the art is generally just pretty airbrushed people and furries), maybe it's that it marketed itself as an artbook as much as an RPG, but I'm over 30 pages into this thing and I could not tell you what the actual premise of the game is, what characters the game will be playing, or what any of the central conflicts are. I could, at best, make an educated guess.

I knew it was a mess but I'm kind of surprised it isn't on "worst ever" lists. It's an absolute headache of nonsense to try and hack through. I don't even want to think of what it would be like to try and play it.

What I know of Eoris is that it consists of a set of expensive books that are hard to find, and even the PDFs will run you 20bux as a bundle. It's obscure, and most people who have heard of it were probably scared off by the character sheet which looks like Anima: Beyond Fantasy loving exploded.

In other words, since you're in the "lucky" position of having found a hardcopy dirt cheap, you should review it for F&F. If I'd managed to come into a cheap copy of Metabarons you betta belieb I'd be F&Fing that baby.

I've also got a hard copy of Eoris, and ARB is right on. It's the biggest nightmare of front-loaded cosmology I can think of; the closest thing that even comes to mind is Synnibarr, and Synnibarr might make more sense. I've read the beginning and skimmed a lot of the rest, and I'm still not sure what in God's name one is supposed to play. I honestly think it may just be someone writing their weird dreams/meditation images as a roleplaying game without possibly considering the actual "roleplaying game" part?

LatwPIAT

Eoris is in many ways a World of Darkness heartbreaker. The system is like Masquerade except...

(...there's incredibly detailed personality mechanics.)

(It's also the only system I've seen that acknowledges that personal appearance takes actual effort to maintain, rather than being an inherent, immutable bonus.)

The difference here is that Immortals is quasi-comprehensible, if only in that it's lovely Highlander. Eoris has the overwrought, complicated vagueness of a vanity-press fantasy epic, which is honestly what it is.
