Any Corellian ship works, there's a huge variety. Depends on how shooty vs how cargo-y you wanna be, ultimately.

HT-2200 is a good middle ground that I like since it doesn't scream wannabe 1300 but still basically has all the same features.

My Star Wars game was delayed and now I'll be running it in a couple weeks. Any recommendations for changing up the EotE starter set adventure? I'll have one or two players that went through it over a year ago and I don't want to bore them. One of them did choose a character from the TFA starter so she can have her ship already docked in the city but what else can I change around or add?

I did a pretty half-assed reskin of it after I found out one of my players in an older game had run through the beginner box adventure five times previously. Literally all I did was change the planet (Ord Mantell junkyard town instead of backwoods Tatooine village), the Hutt crimelord (some other random race, I think a Twi'lek?), and the Trandoshan bounty hunter's ship (I forget what, but something that wasn't a boring YT-1300). It was juuust different enough that he wasn't bored.

Stay on Target has rules for astromechs assisting their pilots, bit I think a rough version of the minion rules could also work.

Having dedicated gunners would boost the ship's overall Gunnery dice pool. Comm officers would add to Computers like the crew of that ISB slicing ship on Rebels.

Decided to take a shot at stating up Deathtroopers. Used Stormtroopers as a base. Worked from there.

Edit: Head's Up Display and Stealth Armor are supposed to be armor mods, but I don't know how to add that to custom armor in Oggdude.

Patched one hole for another to pop up. Diffculty. Also, typically, it's head-up display or heads-up display, usually the latter from what I tend to see.

Mechanically, I can't offer much, since I'm just learning the system as of recent times.

Does combat & fighting ever get less lethal? It feels like everyone has very few options to mitigate incoming damage. Soak seems to cap at brawn +2, defense seems to cap at one or two black dice (hiding behind cover), and then I suppose dodge talents let you add another black dice or two?

Dodge talents are actually quite useful, upgrading purple dice into reds which makes it harder to hit you by quite a bit. Beyond that, yea, combat remains lethal, especially against strong foes. In a recent encounter with a Hutt boss, two of our party lost an arm against the 6 brawn + vibrosword, and we only didn't loose more because of lucky crits and a dropped disrupter rifle.

Looks good, in terms of mechanics I maybe wouldn't give them Agility 4 (plus the free blue) because that quickly hits the threshold for being able to reliably hit players, especially if they are in groups. Depends on the players you're sent at. I used some that were rocking heavy blaster rifles and 3 agility so they were a 'we need to drop them before they get a turns cause they start hitting hard quickly', though if you have some solid combat players that works fine. Those stats are definitely a strong 'oh poo poo' when you see a stack of them coming at you.

Also I'd maybe put Vigilance on that list (instead of Coercion?) as its a common skill to check on for minions.

I'm tempted to make an Investigator with a sort of Dirk Gently vibe, but I've never played a F&D character before.

I notice they get fewer career skills, any tips for compensating for this or for secondary specialisations that might synergise well with an investigator?

I think what I'll do is remove the boost die from Ranged -Heavy and give their Blaster Rifle the Superior customization. This will give them a free Advantage while also making their sucess with attacks less guarnteed. It also better represents their top of the line equipment.

Better yet, I do the Superior thing, but have the HUD ability just remove a Setback from Ranged - Heavy and Ranged -Light which is a lot less powerful, but gets the idea across.

Keeping boost to perception either way.

Yeah thats definitely a lot more fun to play with from a player standpoint. It means death troopers are going to be dumping penalty dice on people and more likely to drop a crit than just taking you out of the fight straight away. Plus its hard to stack penalty dice on them because they're elite troopers who dont need no man. Boosting perception is good though.

I would take a stab and say Skip Tracer is your best better for an Investigator type jedi character. As to additional specializations that would compliment that varies at lot, maybe check out one of the Smuggler/Explorer archetypes that might match the skillset you want to add or if you're sticking with F&D only stuff maybe a Mystic: Advisor would be a good addition?

"And I did it, because I was a man who had exhausted reason and thus turned to magicks"
The only mechanism for consistently making combat less brutal are the Parry and Deflect talents in Force and Destiny. That or play a high Brawn character. Cover does little, adding Black or Red dice helps but they are very unpredictable in effect and adding large amounts is difficult.

Offense also scales a lot faster than defense so the game becomes rocket tag fairly quickly.

I'm 1300 exp into a Gand Findsman with Force Powers and a focus on ranged combat. I opened up on a group of experienced Storm Troopers recently. My pool was IIRC 4 yellow, 2 green, 3 force, 5 blue versus 2 red and 2 purple (I removed a bunch of black with talents). think I hit 5 times with my pool doing 26 damage, 21 damage, 21 damage, 21 damage and 21 damage. No character can take damage like that.

The only good news is you are unlikely to die, but crits resulting in limb replacement can be pretty common.

It was particularly a problem in Starship combat where your ships get crippled incredibly fast. We switched over the Emperor Norton's starship combat rules, where shields become soak like Parry and Deflect fuelled by your ships strain. I suppose you could mod rules where in cover you can use an option like Deflect where you take some strain to reduce the damage by the quality of the cover.

That's 130 sessions at 10 exp a session. We've been playing since EoE came out. But the issues of offense outstripping defense exist at the lower levels and only get worse as time goes on.

At about 300 exp, we looked at how the offence was going and made a conscious decision to diversify our portfolios rather than doubling down on a single build point. Anything the GM had to hombrew up that I couldn't kill with my current offence was likely to be immune to the other half of the party, so we went into other trees and force powers to cover a wider range of situations. We're still ludicrously specialised, but at least we can all do 3 or 4 things really well now.

But yeah for ranged its

Autofire≥Dual Wield≥Single shot.
