regular old mw

the script is a bracer that spawns throwing daggers and autoequips them (and was immediately improved by greatness7), also the 1st person animations are set to duration 0 so short of spawning daggers in front of you thats as fast as it's gonna get lol. also you can set a hotkey in MGEXE to hammer mouse1 over and over

it started as a way to make throwing weapons not suck, mostly because there's a limited supply, then that turned into "I bet this would look cool"

Thinking of (finally) giving this a try, with MGSO for fancier graphix.
A few questions:
A.) I'm thinking of being a Dark Elf, Apprentice sign, and fighting with a mix of Long Blade & magic. Sound like a solid-enough basis for a character?
B.) If I'm reading it correctly, I'm hoping Linora's Levelling mod will make it so I can basically not have to stress about levelling up the "right" skills to maximize stat gains for each level. Any potential downsides I might not be seeing? Do folks recommend the Easy, Medium, or Hard version (assuming I want a little bit of challenge, but still want to be at the 'punch demigods to death'-tier by the endgame)?
C.) The MGSO seemed to have a lot of patches and patch-like things included in it; should I still install the "Morrowind Patch Project," or will most of that stuff have been already taken care of?

Gobblecoque

I'd go with Mage over Apprentice. Or pick Atronach if you want to be a real badass. Never used Linora's but I can say that GCD delivers perfectly on never worrying about how you're leveling.

Good enough for me! Is there anything I should know about it going in, or is it just "use the skills you want and the stats will work themselves out"?

MGSO has an old version of Morrowind code patch in it doesn't it? There are some good things in the newer code patch like being able to see which items are owned, so I'd get it personally.

...I'm also curious if anyone has tried / can recommend the mod (mods? I think there are a couple different ones that do this) that changes combat skills to affect damage rather than hit chance, so you don't have to go through the awkward phase of frequently whiffing attacks.
On the one hand, I kind of want as close to an "authentic" Morrowind experience as I can get - but on the other hand, if it makes things substantially less aggravating without significantly changing difficulty, I'd strongly consider it.

It's not that bad, just remember fatigue impacts your skill chance. If you pick Long Sword as a major, you're a dark elf (+5 to longsword) and you keep your fatigue maxed when you fight you should be able to do just fine early on. Most people just run around everywhere then whiff every attack while fighting a mudcrab at 0 fatigue, without realizing what they're doing wrong.

That said you should enchant a piece of clothing with constant fatigue restoration as soon as possible.

Yeah, I feel like a lot of the frustration from the "whiffing" phenomena stems from the fact that the typical player is accustomed to running across the countryside without any (immediate) malus. Plus it's a lot easier to inadvertently stumble into difficult fights, resulting in super-tense scenarios where you're like, "COME ON! I just need to hit you with a spear three more times!" than in subsequent TES games where most poo poo is reflective of your current level.

A Redguard that starts with longsword as a major and combat specialisation, at full fatigue, will have approximately a 62.5% chance to hit whatever you wanna hit so long as your agility is more or less equal to the targets. Within the first 5-6 levels I suspect you'd get that very close to 100% for most enemies (+1 skill in longsword = +1.25% chance to hit at full fatigue).

If that's not enough you can start with an Orc using any weapon that get's a +100% hit chance racial ability that can be used once per day.

Gobblecoque
Sep 6, 2011
Another thing worth noting if you use conjuration magic is that bound weapons have a +10 to their associated skill for an additional boost.

But basically don't worry about any of it too much. So long as you manage your fatigue you'll be fine. Keep some food or restore fatigue potions with you and rest up if you think you're about to get into a fight.

ya agree but its bad now compared with what you can download in a few clicks, mcp 2.3 is amazing.

MGSO didn't do anything to impact gameplay which was funny because a lot of people said "i can stand old graphics its the combat and weird old mechanics i can't stand" then they download mgso and say "it makes morrowind perfect!" without realizing it only changed the graphics lol

Yeah, I'd say the guy that's worked on MCP has done more to make Morrowind as popular as it is now than anyone else. Without it the engine is just so loving janky and crashes so much it's hard to get in to the game. I remember on one of my installs Morrowind would CTD once every 10-15 mins, now I get CTDs once every 10 - 15 hours.

God help anyone that plays Morrowind on Xbox - I couldn't imagine what that's like.

You guys know you can run MGSO and then run the new code patch, right? You don't have to choose one or the other. I use MGSO, replaced MGEXE with the newest version, and uninstalled MCP 2.0 and then installed the newest MCP. Everything works great, AND I get my pretty graphics.

This is all right of course, but it doesn't change the fact that for the average person trying to install mods for Morrowind is an extremely difficult and technical process, and any number of things can completely gently caress up your game. Knowing what will and won't gently caress things up is a Dark Art that can only be learned through years of experimentation.

MGSO fulfilled a need for the people that don't want to spend six to seven hours installing a game. You can of course say "graphics mods aren't necessary", but that's not a position shared by the vast majority of people that play this game I feel.

It's also very hard for someone like me who might play Morrowind once or twice a year and who's not "plugged in" to the community on an ongoing basis to keep up to date with what the best mods are.

MGSO's crime was being left to linger and not keeping up with the times imo. The idea of having a community endorsed master graphics overhaul is a good one.

lmao it was in no way "community endorsed"

it excluded tons of mods from people who didn't want their mods or works-in-progress (which are now mostly completed) to be included so he got to pick 2nd or 3rd tier mods from people who agreed to it or just didn't respond to his inquiry.

morrowind doesn't need MGSO for it to be good, it needs a few nuts and bolts replaced and a quick npc job and a basic texture pack and you're golden

downloading 500 separate files for sign replacers and "better silt strider textures" is for people who really want to do it

e: I would seriously bet a good 60%+ people who downloaded mgso played for 10 minutes and still bounced off so who cares
