Man, they really did put a lot of effort into making this game dense. There are quests your crew will only give you if you actually talk to them about specific things, there are whole conversation threads that span across several NPCs and don't have any "in game reward", but they're there if you actually want to get immersed and feel like you're Space Inquisitor.

This game is definitely more like Inquisition than any ME, outside of the combat obviously, but in my opinion it's really streamlined in comparison. I still need to replay Inquisition and do the DLC and man it is gonna be hard after this.

Game is really, really good. The lukewarm critical reception is actually a little baffling to me. I understand the reception being lukewarm on balance, but I'm quite surprised there aren't more gushing reviews.

Can confirm, I hated Voeld and I think the environments are pointlessly large. It's more of an annoyance to me and I just unlock all the fast travel poo poo ASAP.

The reception slightly before launch was boiling and the hate directed at the game was immense. Then people actually started playing the game and suddenly the toxicity levels went down and now people are mostly talking positively about the game. Like yeah, it has issues. Many issues... but it's kind of good :stare:

Well I was wrong. The game is good. This facial expression thing is really glaring at the start but than either I got used to it or its better later in the game. The only really glaring problem is broken/badly designed triggers for events, if you go off the route you get emails and stuff about things you didn't do yet.
Question to people who played or beaten the game. How is Ryder's personality? There was a tooltip at the start that said that choosing dialogue options will determine the personality. I was going mostly "casual" response and now he is cracking jokes even in dialogues where I don't choose the answer. Is it the same for everyone or there are actually 4 personalities?

Wow, I just epically defeated the cardinal - charge>nova and the finishing blow was a melee punch to the face.

The game gives you "feedback" in the form of an onrunning 'psychological evaluation' in your codex and it says things like "Ryder is a funny and carefree guy" if you choose the funny and carefree dialog option a lot.

The voice acting really struggles to make use of the four options, and the written dialog just shits on everything else sometimes. it doesn't seem like you're going to have clear cut "badass" Shepard or "kinda friendly" Shepard personalities here.

I think there's a hidden meter that tracks whether Ryder is Professional or Casual. The other two don't come up often enough to make me think there are 4 personalities.

While I'm not very far into the game yet (completed the vault on Eos, just returned to the Nexus), I think I've got used to characters' usually kind-of-blank expressions too. Even so, there's often at least some animation going on around the eyes and forehead. Had a chat with Lexi on the Tempest and her expressions looked a little more natural than some other characters. And speaking of Lexi, it's bullshit that she won't go out with Ryder because she's his doctor. It's the flippin' space frontier, who cares!

Also, after emerging from Eos' vault again I was pleased to see people actually move a little (even walk around) during those over-the-shoulder conversations. Those animations might be independent of the actual dialogue, but it's better than seeing nothing but their mouths move.

And about Ryder's personality, I don't know how much your dialogue choices affect anything, but it seems to have some effect at least. I'm mostly picking the casual options this time round, and apparently because of that I was able to ask SAM how his sense of humour is when talking to him on the Tempest.

Same. This game should be close to matching ME3's scores. Something something groupthink, maybe.

Might be that a lot of people are struggling to form a connection with the Andromeda galaxy in a universe where there should still be tons of Milky Way stuff. That's the only sticking point for me.

I think I was able to ask him that on the Nexus/Hyperion SAM node right before I got on the Tempest for the first time. If not, it was immediately after getting on the Tempest. I was picking casual responses up to then, but I doubt that opened up the option.

The no saves on priority missions makes some sense at a high level - avoiding save-scumming - but in reality it leads to a poor experience. It feels out of place in a generally lighter, accessible game with a robust autosave/checkpoint system. Dark Souls, whatever, it's accepted that every action has weight and consequence.

Apex HQ app talk: The free weapons you get in SP from completing (some) app strike team missions level as your SP character does. So this is a way to get some weapon variety and upgrades as you go without having to research everything. Which you can't anyway. I'm pretty sure the weapons always come from the missions that have that extra Apex icon on them, so keep spamming those until you succeed. The weapon rewards are what makes this worth it early in your SP career, the cash and materials don't add up to too much, although they aren't nothing. The research points are probably second best.

I also note that I have received a couple of duplicate weapons when picking up, I'm not sure if this is bad luck, a duplicate bug, or a weak random number seed. It's free materials when I break them down, so no big deal, even if I'd rather have a different gun.
