I think it's funny people accuse Moorer of taking a dive when if you watch the fight not only does George pretty clearly catch him right before the final KO punch (his hands just drop like a foot), after the KO you can clearly see Moorer's eyes are just glass at that point

I still maintain big George was a better boxer than Ali and it took a perfect storm of circumstance for him to lose that fight

Foreman has a pretty legit argument as one of if not the most devastating punchers in history. If Moorer took a dive (he didn't) he took a dive the hard way by letting himself get lit up.

And yeah, knowing that just makes the Ali fight even more impressive and I agree it was just a mash of everything working out to make history.

Playing professional style tennis is absolutely impressive to play at 50. If you're talking about those older guys who just return everything like a backboard or something but never hit any winners or drop shots and just try to outlast you, sure

(those fuckers eat me alive since I'm more of a ground stroke and volley player and suck at drop shots so I can't really force them to move and they just lob it over me if I go to the net)

"Most impressive". Sorry. I thought context was implied. It's impressive crushing it at 50 but Jagr is just leaps and bounds above

It isn't tennis.

Aw hunny, these came out GREAT!
Tennis players playing at advanced ages are super impressive because the prime of the sport is so much younger. Federer winning the Aussie Open was amazing. It's just not as taxing as some of the other sports mentioned.

It's not a shot at Tennis, which is a cool and good sport

Bartolo Colon is still going

One of my favorite factoids about him is that he started his career the same year Turner Field opened and has outlasted it

Jamie Moyer played until he was 49

All sports are cool and good. You're right that the impressiveness of the feat is directly related to the age of the competition. Like if you're an Olympic gymnast at 28 it's more impressive than being a QB at 38.

Did we discuss this proposed rule change by Washington?

Rule Change: Moves the line of scrimmage to the 20-yard line for any touchback where the free kick travels through the uprights.

Because I find that to be pretty hilarious and also something I can get behind

It'd at least keep people's attention slightly which is good, but feels pretty gimmicky.

I'm fine with it, but I think they want to try to eliminate kickoffs, and they need something that convinces teams to boot it into the endzone instead of what teams like the Pats' did last year, which was try and land it just short so teams would have to return it and do poorly at it.

There was also this silly italian sport that was just basically an organized tailgate fight.

Like Forty big dudes just squaring off in a mud pit and punching each other.

Simultaneously a great and terrible sporting event. Great if you just imagine them screaming "THAT WAS MY FOLDING TABLE RANDY" at each other.

Yeah, the other part of the problem is that even though the intent was fine--returns got much worse since players were much, much less likely to get past the 25, the percentage of touchbacks didn't actually increase (my rough/quick math puts 2016 at 56.8% of kickoffs, compared to 56% in 2015), because returners were just as likely to run it out and get smeared. I think this is partly due to perverse incentives, though--if you're a return specialist, you aren't being paid to take a knee.

Say there's 10s left in the half, and you're on D. O's going to try and run 1 play before attempting a FG, but definitely doesn't have time for two.

On the snap, everyone on D holds like crazy, runs 6s off the clock. Move forward 5 yards, attempt the kick, you are 100% for sure not giving up a TD there.

Or the Ravens in one game last year, 10s left, they have to punt. Entire offense just tackles everyone on the D, punter runs around until time expires then takes a knee.
