This Nunes story keeps getting weirder and weirder. The other day it was reported that he got a text message and then basically jumped out of an Uber to go deal with it. Today it's reported (and confirmed by his spokesperson) that he met his super secret inside source for his wiretapping allegations ... at the White House. This means that his contact either had enough access to the White House to routinely meet there, or even more weird, his contact works at the White House.

Logically, freep has nothing on today's story as a headline, but it does have the Uber one. From Lawmaker's 'peculiar midnight run' endangers Trump-Russia inquiry posted by freeper RummyChick

From Rep. Ted Poe: House Freedom Caucus Moved the Goalpost in Healthcare Negotiations posted by freeper Sybeck1

The freep link is to the "People's Pundit," which I've never heard of. These quotes seem to match reality, though, so we'll go with it. Emphasis added.

the excerpt posted:

Rep. Ted Poe., R-Texas, resigned from the House Freedom Caucus (HFC) after they moved the goalpost during healthcare negotiations with President Trump. As People’s Pundit Daily previously reported, the ObamaCare repeal bill was amended 11 times in an effort to appease the various conservative and moderate factions in the House GOP.

“I have resigned from the House Freedom Caucus,” Rep. Poe, a founding member of the caucus said in a statement. “In order to deliver on the conservative agenda we have promised the American people for eight years, we must come together to find solutions to move this country forward. Saying no is easy, leading is hard, but that is what we were elected to do. Leaving this caucus will allow me to be a more effective Member of Congress and advocate for the people of Texas. It is time to lead.”

In an appearance on Fox and Friends Monday morning, the Texas congressman said he spoke with HFC chair Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., who asked him to stay. But he explained how the caucus changed their demands after the president negotiated with House leadership to get their provisions into the bill and felt that the caucus was basically negotiating in bad faith.

“They were always going to be a ‘No’,” he said.

He made a similiar comment over the weekend.

“Some only want to be the party of ‘no’ & would’ve voted against the 10 commandments,” Rep. Poe tweeted.

I tell ya what I think, I think Ryan is lieing thru his teeth.

IMHO The ONLY reason the bill was pulled was because Ryan couldn’t even get the votes of the RINOs. Sure the FC opposed it, but the majority of the push back was from RINOs.

Think about that for a moment. They are out in full force smearing the Freedom Caucus, yet there are other stories suggesting otherwise.

What better way to expose the Freedom Caucus than a Recorded vote? But that didn’t happen did it? If this would have hurt the FC, Ryan would have called for it.

It’s a hell of a lot more logical than Ryan blaming the FC AFTER he pulls the bill from a Recorded vote to cover the RINOS from public exposure.

It's an opinion piece from Allen West's site that's effectively blogspam for a post on Facebook by a group called "Unbiased America." I agree. All this “I the weeds” stuff becomes irrelevant. It doesn’t make it to the radar of Joe Six Pack. Where Trump is losing it, IMHO, is he is playing at President. He is letting the Rats “count coup” by delaying his appointments and blocking legislation. The content is irrelevant as are the persons nominated. The fact is, the Rats and BSM (Brown Shirt Media) are crowing victory with every scalp taken and Trump is not punching back. Trump needs to start hurting these enemies and he needs to start hurting them bad. The more he lets them take scalps without retaliating is making him weaker by the day, which, of course, is their plan.

If Trump wants to turn this around he needs to start putting heads on a pike outside the White House (figuratively, of course). But seriously, prosecute Hillary, tie pizzagate to Soros and hang everyone involved up to and including Soros. He seems to be pulling punches hoping Schumer and the media will become reasonable. “...I am beginning to wonder what his definition of beautiful is!”

Trump has always been clear that he is not opposed to big govt, he spoke well of the existing entitlements often and spewed liberal rhetoric about not letting people die in the streets, etc regarding his own approach to HC - and don’t forget the infamous interview where he mentioned HC as a top/primary function of the federal government.

FreeRepublic is a microcosmic analogy to the point of this article. Which is that the future is dark for Freedom.

The article points out how the balance of opposition to the crappy Ryan/Trump-care bill suggests that the next bloody attempt will likely be more left-leaning than was this left-leaning failure - loved and supported by Trump.

And, by my own estimation, the balance of support for Freedom on this FreeRepublic site is likewise tilting more left than I recall in the past.

To some extent the idolization of our party’s successful Hillary-slaying, invasion-fixing, plain-speaking, America-loving president is to blame.

Trump is fantastic is some areas. But giving him, or anyone, a pass on mistakes is not the recipe for improvement.

Trigger warning.... Trump was wrong.

Supporting the bill was wrong. Blaming the only white hats in this dark comedy, the Freedom Caucus, was wrong. The childish remarks about the HFC saving Obamacare, PP, etc was embarrassingly wrong.

No need to pretend it did not happen and no need to totally abandon Trump over these faults. As well, no need to compromise our collective and individual integrity in some misguided effort to shift blame.

The FR analogy is evidenced by people here considering the HFC an enemy, by supporting various forms of federal level entitlement/subsidy, by agreeing feds should make permanent Obamacare-created popular regulations, etc. Their arguments are not intentionally immoral but they are at least in part intellectually lazy - from the perspective of American Freedom.

I find it hard to believe there has ever existed a political party as inept as today’s Republicans in capitalizing on historic levels of voter-promoted dominance across both the branches and levels of government.

With the House, the Senate, the WH, soon the court, the vast majority of Govs and state houses... this is perhaps the most opportune juncture in American history to right some of the biggest, most suicidal wrongs of our leftward drift.

This won’t happen, but could be yuge and beautiful if it did: Trump starts to lead instead of deflect. And starts to leverage his best skills: showmanship and sorta bigger-than-life on-screen presence. Calls for a very open HC Freedom summit. Invite the feds and the states and the internet. Then highlight the guys he can most identify with, the state executives, the Govs - who generally love to brag about their state-level programs, let’s get their public input and assistance in moving HC functions back into their domain/control where it constitutionally acceptable. Trump is a lousy policy-level politician, but he’s blessed with a great personality and his own style of charisma - he should put it to work on a level that works.

It boggles my mind how quickly some folks, theoretically on Freedom’s Right hand, will support a leftward fed level regulation/subsidy if it seems somehow morally correct to them. Because, in my opinion, they fall prey to the destructive leaven which has infected both parties: the notion that no good will ever be accomplished if not done via the biggest, most impersonal and ineffective level of government. When the exact opposite is true.

Another thing which mind-boggles is the near ubiquitous acceptance of a dreadfully misguided pairing of issues: health care and welfare. Naturally, neither should involve the federal government. But regardless the level involved these are two square pegs we keep trying to shove into some sort of love and happiness drum circle.

Get the gov’t the hell out of HC and insurance and both will be affordable by nature. Then, to the extent they feel necessary, states can get involved on the welfare issue. Entirely separate from HC law/regs. Whether that means states subsidizing individuals costs to join high risk pools for the unfortunately preconditioned, helping the poor pay for low-cost/low-feature insurance, providing low levels of direct care for the poor instead of insurance or simply leaving most things to the market and private charities, none of it should matter to the feds other than help removing decades of barriers.

Health care is only as expensive as it is today because govt designs regarding it are corrupted with an unrelated prime directive to deliver welfare. We can argue and disagree about welfare all day long. In the meantime it is killing our health care system for no good reason other than misguided politics.

From BREAKING: Muslims Furious After What Americans Just Did to Them in Montana posted by freeper Tolerance Sucks Rocks

This shitstain of an article is published by Tea Party Dot Org but it's just blogspam from a site called Angry Patriot Movement. It's a rant that uses weasel wording and out of context quotes to shame Democrats for voting against a bill in the Montana legislature that "prohibits state courts from using foreign laws," with the promise that this'll stop the horrors of Spooky Scary Sharia Law.

Here's a fun excerpt.

quote:

You know your position is garbage when you are forced to use and exploit the whole “think about the children” argument — as Democrat Rep. Laurie Bishop so clearly demonstrated. “Let’s not forget the roots of this bill,” she said. “Let’s not forget that our children are watching.”

Yes, I agree, Ms. Bishop: our children ARE watching — and the last thing I want them to see is someone getting stoned to death in the local park because they decided to draw a cartoon which had a slight resemblance to Islam’s prophet.
Let's put that into context using this article in The Missoulian

quote:

Rep. Laurie Bishop, D-Livingston, said the legislation is almost identical to a bill that was struck down in Oklahoma for specifically mentioning Shariah law. She said Regier’s version has the same end result even if it doesn’t say Shariah law.

“Let’s not forget the roots of this bill,” she said. “Let’s not forget that our children are watching.”

So yeah, the article is freep as gently caress. I'm sure they'll love it.

Yet they vote to protect it, so that it can slip in (I guess). They claim the bills ‘not needed’ and therefore vote against them.

Here in Texas, I have to get my cars ‘safety-inspected’ every year by people that likely know less about cars, and certainly less than myself. Yet, I guess, these laws are ‘needed’, when at least half of the states, including California, don’t even require safety inspections? Why aren’t the Democrats pushing to get rid of that law, and likely thousands of other, similar, laws?

Answer - there’s more to it.

For example, each person would agree to allow that their hand be cut off if they are caught stealing. No one would press charges for that assault in a US court. Sort of like a HOA.

A civil war has begun.

This civil war is very different than the last one. There are no cannons or cavalry charges. The left doesn’t want to secede. It wants to rule. Political conflicts become civil wars when one side refuses to accept the existing authority. The left has rejected all forms of authority that it doesn’t control.

The left has rejected the outcome of the last two presidential elections won by Republicans. It has rejected the judicial authority of the Supreme Court when it decisions don’t accord with its agenda. It rejects the legislative authority of Congress when it is not dominated by the left.

It rejected the Constitution so long ago that it hardly bears mentioning.

Well, if the Civil War is here, I say that it started Friday night when my 12 year old granddaughter, in the tradition of the soldiers in our family (Iwo Jima, VN, Iraq and Kosovo), told off a liberal woman wearing a Che Guevera t-shirt at a public family gathering place.

While my son, a veteran of Iraq, said that the woman had every right to wear the shirt, my granddaughter felt that she should ask the woman who she supported a mass murderer, a question the woman refused to address. She left.

Now grandpa’s job here is to provide my granddaughter with the books and congressional hearings on just how many people Che tortured and killed, personally. He bragged about this and reportedly his favorite tool was a hand drill.

I’ve had friends whose family members were anti-Castro fighters. They ended up being shot by Castro and Che because they were anti-communist. This is one of the stories I told my granddaughter. Also having her read books by noted Cuban journalist Humberto Fontova (whose writings appears at FR and FrontPageMagazine, Townhall, etc.

To me, anyone who wears a Che t-shirt should be asked “Why don’t you wear one of Hitler, Himmler, Eichmann or Heydrich too since you like torturers and mass murderers”?

Did my granddaughter just fire the first “reverse Fort Sumtner” shot of the new Civil War? That would also be in the family as some on my wife’s side of the family fought for the Confederacy but the major fought for the Union. At least 17 were at Gettysburg (found 17 listed on one Pennsylvania regiment monument on that battlefield.

If the civil war has begun, count my immediate family in. Collectively been defending America since the 1600’s.

Bolding in the original.

This place has been tense lately due to this healthcare debate. I myself was torn, and I certainly don't think it's a cut and dried issue whether it would have been better to let this bill fail (which I believe) or instead to desire its passage (which I initially believed).
Consequently, there have been some very opinionated comments by supporters of both sides of the discussion.

I'm convinced that it's a very valid question to ask which outcome regarding this bill is actually better or worse. The President was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.

The way that Speaker Paul Ryan handled this bill, both in its inception and its rollout, was shameful, because it didn't even have the veneer of what was talked about during the election cycle, and what the voters who elected President Trump wanted (patient-centric, free-market, repeal Obamacare, etc.).

It really couldn't have been a more profound act of betrayal by the GOPe, as embodied by the Speaker of the House. Either Paul Ryan was being deliberately malicious towards the President, or he is so deeply indoctrinated into the corrupt Uniparty Swamp as to be utterly incorrigible.

I believe it betrays Paul Ryan's barely concealed intent to sabotage this Presidency. Ryan is, essentially, part and parcel of the Establishment which sought with all of its might to prevent a Trump Presidency, and his work in undermining the President has just begun, I fear. That's why I believe he should be replaced forthwith.

But I digress. With respect to your rebuke of the tone of my post, your point is well taken.

I hope that my point can still be heard, however poorly it was conveyed in my initial post. Let me restate:

I believe decent and Constitutionally knowledgeable American patriots of good conscience can come down on either side of the question which so recently has occupied our collective attention: tha AHCA.

I also maintain that disparaging someone on the opposite side of the issue as knowing nothing about Constitutional authority, in this particular case, is somewhat gratuitous.

It's quite possible, as annoying as the case may be,that passing this law might have been better for the People, if not the President, than not passing it.

It's not as cut and dried as everyone thinks, IMHO, and therefore the acrimony against those who have a different opinion on what should have happened, should probably be reduced by both sides.

I find this whole series of events educational, challenging, disturbing, confusing, infuriating, and about a dozen other adjectives, mostly negative ones.

Having said all that, my criticism was a response to what you posted—which was somewhat of an insult to the patriotism of those on the other side of this debate—people whose knowledge of Constitutional authority is quite adequate.

As I suggested, I'm convinced there's room for legitimate disagreement on what would have been best for the People and this Presidency, and the realization that those two ideals could be at odds in this case is problematic...

These freeper fantasies are so cliche'd

From Repeal Obamacare and replace with freedom. Change House and Senate rules to do so if necessary!, a vanity thread posted by JimRob

quote:

"Prior to this year, the House voted to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times ---when it was clear that President Obama would veto the bill. The problem we are facing is that some of the people who voted for repeal 50 times will not vote for repeal when it counts, when it is "our moment in time," with Republicans in control of Congress and the presidency." --Rep Dave Brat

"This has been my complaint since before Obamacare became law. Nothing I’ve seen addresses the problem of increased costs of medical care. All these bills just shift the rising costs from the users to the taxpayers. The system can’t work if healthcare costs continue to rise at a rate that’s faster than household income." --mbynack

Costs go through the roof when the government unconstitutionally mandates that everyone MUST be covered and must be covered for all kinds of crap they don’t need or want and regardless of preexisting conditions or whether they can pay for it or even if they are not citizens. Tyranny is expensive.

To our Republican Representatives:

Repeal 100% of Obamacare and replace with free enterprise/free market solutions per the U.S. Constitution!

Nothing else is acceptable or workable. Socialism, communism, fascism, central planning, etc, is totalitarianism and never works!! Our federal government and our constitutional republic was not designed to be and was never intended to be a welfare state! Our Constitution was designed to prevent all this TYRANNICAL crap!

We rebelled against a tyrannical king for a lot less than this!

No excuses. If the house or senate rules are obstacles to repeal with a simple majority vote or within reconciliation rules (or whatever), then change the damned rules already so you can repeal this unconstitutional piece of socialist crap with the simple majorities you hold in both chambers! The constitution gives YOU the majority, the power to do that.

The congress and the chief executive have just as much power, authority and responsibility as the SCOTUS (and perhaps even more so) to ensure that the Constitution is upheld! Do whatever it takes to fulfill your constitutional DUTY!

We voted in Republican majorities and a Republican president specifically so you can do this REPEAL deal, ON DAY ONE!

Just shut up the ridiculous whining, hand wringing and squabbling and quit trying to pass additional or watered down but still tyrannical unconstitutional bills and just get the clean repeal DONE as you PLEDGED to your constituents and is your sworn constitutional DUTY!!

For crying out loud are you the elected representatives of the free citizens of a free market constitutional republic or are WE the captive subjects of a tyrannical USSR style communist government with a centrally planned economy?

To all:

Does the constitution even matter to you people anymore?

Does the Republic matter?

Does Liberty matter?

Does a free market economy matter?

Our constitutionally limited government was not intended to take care of us from cradle to grave.

It’s NOT their job!!

Conservatives and the Freedom Caucus are not our enemies. The big government globalist establishment is!

And if we go along with it trying for a free lunch, we are. The government does not owe us health care or health care insurance. It’s NOT a God-given right! Nor is it a constitutional power for the federal government. It's reserved to the states and the people!

Wake the hell up, people, it’s a lot later than you think.

It seems that no one else does. The Ryan bill would have been a disaster. I feel betrayed by the GOP-e. President Trump obviously has not decided to contest the GOP-e, even thougfh Trump brought the GOP victory.
Now the GOP-e will seek to subvert President Trumps agenda.

Ryan must go, and so will Mitch McConnel, who allowed a one week delay to the Gorsuch confirmation process. McConnell should have exercised the nuclear option and brought the confirmation process to an immediate vote.

President Trump is now powned by the GOP-e. His presidency will now fail, time and time again.

IM TOTALLY NOT A WHITE SUPREMACIST APOLOGIST, GUYS posted:

I would like you to read the following quote and tell me what it is really saying and what it is advocating. Dr. Chris Emdin of Columbia University writes: “I want white teachers to teach in the hood, believe it or not. I’m for that. But I want them to do it in a way that makes them effective and not burnt out. Black teachers with white supremacist ideologies [are] just as dangerous as white folks who don’t understand culture.”

Your time is up. If you understood or guessed that Emdin is advocating for the continued dysfunctional and destructive behavior that has plagued blacks and specifically those in urban environs for generations, then you understood correctly.

Just what are the “white supremacist ideologies” associated with the presentation of factual American history, civics, mathematics, English, science, biology, chemistry, the study of Shakespearean literature, English literature, engineering, physics, personal finance, personal health and hygiene, etc.?
Oh my god I just clicked through to the article and the author is black. Anyway, more:

:barf: posted:

Downs writes that Emdin “draws parallels between current urban educational models and Native American schools of the past that measured success by how well students adapted to forced assimilation.” Are we to take by that reasoning that the Native Americans were better off not being able to add, subtract, read, write and attend to the basic realities of day-to-day life consistent with modernity, by continuing to dress in skins and feathers? Were they better off living in teepees or structures with indoor plumbing? Were they better off not advancing to the point of owning casinos based upon the application and implementation of what they were “forced to learn?”
[...]
That which is being advocated is no different than San Diego, San Bernardino and Oakland, California, schools systems institutionalizing black children being taught Ebonics instead of standard English.
The entire article is one long THOSE USELESS LAZY NIGURBAN YOUTH NEED TO SHUT UP AND ACT LIKE NICE CIVILIZED WHITE PEOPLE INSTEAD OF THUGS dogwhistle, only the dogwhistle has been replaced with a tornado siren.
