Looking for a song based entirely on the music video - I was at the gym and saw it on a screen that was far away. I was wearing headphones so couldn't hear anything but it looked like it'd be pop / chart within the last 5 years.

As far as I could tell, the video features a girl with black hair singing / dancing in the street during the daytime. She's wearing a red skirt (maybe shorts) at the start and a red dress that she swishes around with her dancing at the end. There might've been backing dancers in some / all of the scenes too. Bright, cheerful, not particularly edgy. The main reason I remember it is that I thought it looked like a Carly Rae Jepsen video that I hadn't seen before and, being a big CRJ fan, I thought it'd be easy enough to look up when I got home.

Checking YouTube, it doesn't seem like it's one of hers and now I'm wondering what the hell it was. I expect it's bad but, y'know, it's bugging me.

Was it this?

Talking about Carly Rae, does anyone know a song that shares a similar beat during Fever's chorus? The part it goes "You wanna break my heart, alright"

It sounds so similar.

I totally know what you mean with this but I can't put my finger on it. It's gonna be some 80s classic or other.

Shazam identified it as Zaar by Peter Gabriel. I had to skip toward the end but it definitely sounded like it to me. YMMV.

I've emailed them about this and they told me that I'm poo poo out of luck. The best you can do is to listen to the online version which is available for 24 hours after airing. This is how i found the Peter Gabriel song 3 posts above - it was the bumper music during MBE. In my limited experience, they play a lot of Tycho, Bonobo, Boards of Canada in the MBE breaks.

If you go into the show's page on the NPR site and find the transcription of the episode all the bumpers will be listed between paragraphs, exactly where they were in the episode.

Someone help me before I am driven insane. I'm trying to track down a song I've heard plenty of times before playing on TV and radio. I guess you'd call it classic rock. If I had to pick when it was from I'd say most likely from the late 70's - early 80's but it could be very off either way. The song starts with an electric organ solo that repeats once before getting into the song proper with drums, guitar, lyrics etc and has a solo male vocalist with a very slightly raspy voice (I don't think they're old, it's just how they sing).

Playing around with a virtual piano I was able to get this vague memory of the beginning organ bit, although it's almost certainly wrong in parts it at least gets the gist across. I'd guess the song plays at around 130bpm:

|A . . . | E . . A | E A E . | D . C . | G . . . | D . . G | D G D . | C . B .| (repeat once)

And finally, there's a pause at the last line of each verse where the male solo singer sings three or four words without the band before it kicks back up again, with the organ playing the intro refrain above alongside them.

Is it Joe Cocker's version of With A Little Help From My Friends?

I don't see any American dream; I see an American nightmare.
It's a song with a robotic monotone female voice. She says lines like "stay with me" "follow me" and then ends with "make love to me." There are no verses that I can remember, just 5 or so lines like that looping. It's a thumper that sounds like late-00s electro house.

Edit: found it, it's 4Trakz - Flash Break

Pop song, think mid-to-late 90s, maaaaybe early 00s at a stretch. Pretty sure it had a female singer, and was British -- it was certainly a hit here, anyway. Chorus has these two notes made by something that sounds like a church bell, going G# G (I think, certainly a semitone apart) as minims, before repeating G# G G# G as quavers. Closest I've found is Feel It by The Tamperer feat. Maya, but unlike that it wasn't EDM I don't think, and the church bell melody is very different

There's one song that's on the tip of my tongue and it's driving me nuts. The title is just "Blood" and it's a country-ish number whose final verse is:

I had called you before.
I ran to the door.
My feet slipped on the floor.
There was just so much blood.

But the song title is making searches a pain in the butt.

So what do you want to be called?
This is actually a "help me identify this technique" request. I'm trying to figure out if there is a name for the technique in songs where the instruments cut out while the singer(s) keeps going for a verse or so, and then they come back.

This is the only example I can think of off-hand:

It's a texture change, in this case to a capella. Since we've heard it so many times by this point our brains fill in the harmony, and it adds interest by being a sudden, dramatic change.

There a thread full of cool questions like this in Musician's Lounge, Small Questions Which Don't Deserve Their Own Thread.

New challenge.

I'm looking for a song with the following qualities:
- Early 2000's pop/dance (similar to Sonique - It Feels So Good, ATC - It Goes Around The World, etc)
- Black (pretty sure) male singer
- The singer passed away (recently?)
- Chorus lyrics about 'feelin good', or something like that

It was on the radio a few days ago, I thought "wow, hadn't heard this one in a long time", and then the DJ said "you've just been swayed by the late [musician name]." I was driving, thinking I'd remember to look it up when I got home but nope.

Thanks!

What's that one hip hop type song where there's a call-and-answer riff part that goes: "Shota! Shota! Shota! Shota!"?

I think they're saying "Shota!" but I can't guarantee it.

I also don't know what "Shota" means besides that witch in The Sword of Truth series.

The Cubs have been playing it in their spring training stadium every time they take the field to start the game.

I'm pretty sure it's 80s but I can't be 100%.

First of all, I've only ever heard "shota" used to mean "shotacon" (that is to say, the little-boy version of lolicon).

If this is the Cubs, they're probably saying "Chi-town". One of the Cubs entering-the-field songs is Homecoming by Kanye West - he says 'Chi-town' and 'Chi-city' a few times, but not really in a call and answer way. There are a few lists out there of their music, but the only other song on this list that matched both "hip hop" and "entering the field" was Written in the Stars by Tinie Tempah and I'm sure that isn't it.

Either way, I'm definitely sure they're not saying "shota", haha. This may help you search better, anyway, if the Kanye song isn't it.

I can confirm it is not either of those songs.

I can further elaborate that the song has a very similar sound to "Jump on it!"

Especially during the call-and-answer part.
