Later you'll discover your father died making you the chosen Special One who can do the Special Thing. You will be opposed by a megalomaniacal villain with few lines and little characterization. The writing is terrible. And Mass Effect 2 opens with a character named Shepard being brought back from the dead to assemble a rag-tag group of ruffians, outlaws, and experts to go on a suicide mission where they stop an alien spaceship invasion by shooting a giant robot skeleton in the face with a nuke, all while being personally taunted by an allegedly unknowable villain like he's some 15 year old Call of Duty player with anger management issues. The writing is terrible.

I got a similar report to your first profile for my Ryder. She is cool and diplomatic in the field even with 'difficult personalities' but more warm on the Tempest, which is how I've been trying to play her, so that was cool to see. I wondered if it was astrology writing-just vague enough with enough hooks to seems like it 'gets me', so it's neat to hear that you got a different read on a different playthrough. Reading through the companion codex entries is interesting too. In particular, with Drack, it says he "decided" to stay with the team after I saved the Salarian pathfinder over his scouts. Which makes me wonder if there is a series of moves you can make that leads to him quitting the team. The game is so long that it doesn't really lend itself to multiple playthroughs for me, but I'm curious about what you could put together for the worst possible world state at the end.

It's been there since the start. It's not that Krogans love to fight and gently caress all the time, it's that other species are huge weakling pussies that can't even breed right.

This really is a game of contrasts because while you have some "my face is tired" open world cutscenes the main story cutscenes and the loyalty mission cutscenes actually look really loving good. Makes me wonder how the game might have been received if it was structured with more of a mission focus.

Also extremely cool to bury the lede when guy mentions a totally separate and sovereign human colony on Eos and Ryder characteristically cannot give two shits about it.

There's a bunch of dialog on Voeld in the colony about how they are mining ice to ship off world. I wonder how they could have addressed this intelligently in the other planets. (I kind of love the idea of quest chains that simply don't trigger if you do things in the right order, but also can see the disadvantages of players accidentally cutting themselves out of ~content~).

I remember reading something on Voeld about ice getting shipped off to Eos

I mean I guess the easiest would be to have some lines of dialog where you ask about the Voeld ice and they're like "oh yeah, we know about that but it takes time to get interplanetary bulk shipping up and running and our people are dying NOW, Ryder."

What is, like, ME1 Cerberus for, though? In ME2 Cerberus is part of the whole "fight for the lost" thing where the traditional power structures (which after ME1 we now realise are corrupt) properly begin to break down, and Shepard has to team up with criminals and outcasts to save the galaxy. The unholy alliance with TIM is much of a sameness as teaming up with the likes of Jack, Thane, Mordin and Legion. It's a deal with the devil, yeah? And Shepard's walk on the wild side is what gives them the tools to eventually take down the Reapers. In ME1 Cerberus are a generic high-tech humanoid enemy group with an unspecified agenda to carry out unethical experiments for unclear reasons. What was the purpose of turning people into killer zombies, and to what end were they going to employ these zombie weapons? Why did they send soldiers into a thresher maw nest, and what did they learn from the pointless slaughter? That a squad of humans aren't a match for a group of colossal galactic apex predators? Most of the jokes about Cerberus' incompetence come from these ME1 misfires. It's part of this orphaned idea about how sometimes science can be bad when the wrong people, e.g. Cerberus/Exogeni/Binary Helix, get their hands on it. But where does ME1 go with this?

Fojar38 posted:in me2 it is revealed that every time you kill a geth you are actually killing millions of individuals most of which arent combat oriented at all I thought it was the opposite, that each Geth platform was linked to a huge server/consciousness that was housed somewhere far off, and that most of the low-level thinking was done by consensus in these hubs while individual sensory data was uploaded once in a while to be disseminated. So when you kill a robot you're basically just killing a locally networked camera with a gun. Legion is the only platform with all the experimental independence.
