Stop researching Fiat X1/9s, you really don't need one, not even this one that's only $10,000 and has a roll bar. http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/atlanta/1973/fiat/x-1/9-S227.html

I'll have to get some pics, but an old guy I'm friends with is working on a pretty AI project. Taking a lotus Europa body and frame, mounting formula ford suspension, center lock magnesium wheels, and trans from the formula ford, with a custom bellhousing adapter to mount a Honda Fit motor. He's hoping for a sub 2k lb dry weight. That bellhousing adapter was about 24 hours on a 5 axis. Sadi fucked around with this message at 20:59 on Apr 3, 2017 |

Well that's pretty cool - basically a Formula F car with two seats and fenders. I saw one done similarly to that once but with a Cosworth BDG in the back. I keep thinking it would be neat to get a Europa "again" (ok, the last ones were my dad's and they got sold off) but then I remember I barely fit in them when I was a teenager.

That looks like fun. There are always a bunch of Europa projects on the GRM forums and I never get tired of looking at them.

I do love them so. I considered buying one last year but decided a rattly-known-for-engine-exploding Toyota was the way forward. Regret.

Rigged Death Trap posted:"Converted Using chevy volt batteries and a GS450h hybrid transmission." I think it's quite limited in the OEM system, as the electric only drive mode will only take you to about 20mph according to Lexus. Looking at the quoted numbers vs the standard power for that V6 puts the electric motor contributing roughly 100hp in the factory assist function. Running it hot you could probably push some respectable numbers, the limitation is the heat dissipation with these things more than it is mechanical resilience, if you look at commercial motors they often quote a continuous power and 30s/60s/etc "burst" power. My first thought was that he could attach a different, complimentary electric motor to the ICE input...

To give you an idea about reliability, they share basically everything with the 124/Yugo except the transmission, suspension, and rear brakes. My bad luck aside, what I've learned from trawling he Xweb forums, it looks like they're in for some kind of minor repair about every 14th day they're on the road. The phrase "structural rust" also comes up about as often as "normal jeep rust" does on Craigslist They're so loving pretty though, and with Honda engines or Uno Turbos, they're lightning fast. 2100lbs, 4 feet tall, 5 feet wide, and a total length barely longer than a Crown Vic's wheelbase... beautiful

Film's decent enough if you like cyberpunk, and there's loads of stuff in there from previous iterations for fanboys to spot.
