No but there is a distinct vibe of the AI being refugees looking for a home who set out to seek new lives and their fortunes. You constantly have to tell the angarans not to compare you with the evil criminals that came before you and you have to deal with angaran nationalists who are basically paraphrasing right-wing talking points. Which would hit home harder if you hadn't stolen a bunch of planets from them (in the case of Kadara and the krogan desert planet an actual occupation) and put down army depots on top of their actual sacred ground.

The AI is only Mexicans to the extent it is the Conquistadors. Ambitious, chaotic adventurers with superior technology who can't go home, a home that is the fractious cooperative competition of many. The Kett are the Aztecs, the Angara are their subject people. Andromeda 2 will be the arrival of the English (a better organized Milky Way expedition in an adjacent cluster) as your society starts a downward slide due to incorporated Angaran influences. Andromeda 3 is you, the Asari child of an Angaran father, sneaking into that adjacent cluster and demanding affirmative action in their better society as recompense for their past enslavement of an unrelated race they brought over from the Milky Way.

If we are going to go with subpar quality, instead of the superb quality of the original Mass Effects, I would not have problem buying MEA2 with a Asari child of a Angara father, or really any other race. I don't have to comment how awesome would be to roleplay a Krogan. But maybe this is too much a tall order.

It could be easier to animate a alien race. Harder to get into uncanny valley territory, I think.

I like the Tempest, with a couple issues.

No non squadmate crew bar Gil, Kallo and Suvi. I would have expected at least a few more people just on stations.

Pathfinder gets a loving huge room with no place to take a dump or shower. I would have been much happier to have a slightly smaller room with an en-suite

Also, did the Normandy SR2 ever actually land as in... land with gear? If I recall due to its vast size you either got tethered to a dock, or you were punted out in a shuttle.

That had some sort of rhythm, like.. you would take the do-gooders for a mission, then other with the evil guys, then one with a mix of do-gooders and evil guys. And it was always entertain and varied. Sadly, Mass Effect is too deep into the Mary Sue archetype, and Mary Sue can't have flaws be racist.

This game has been really fun and I'm almost done. 100% on all planets and meridian is next.

The coolest weapon I've made is the remnant smg with extended clip and seeker rounds. It's a charge-->spray blindly forever and they die.

If you shotgun meelee build as a vanguard with hyperguardian armor and an asari sword V it's incredible. The level 6 shotgun perk that gives boost to shotgun damage after a meelee and boost to meelee after a shotgun hit, plus all those above boosts, is just holy poo poo.

Charge--> shotgun-->sword strike--> their body flies across the map.

Havarl is just absolutely killing any enjoyment I might get out of the single-player because the writing is so threadbare.

(1) I picked up all the quests at the lab you first land near. All of them look like annoying fetch or scan quests, except for the "examine ancient spaceship wreckage" one. So I beeline for that, only to find that it consists of fighting off a generic monster mob, hitting "Examine Alien Spaceship," and receiving "Ancient Alien Helmet." Quest updates that I should return the helmet to a scientist at the lab now that I've fetched it. gently caress you.

(2) I find Turian ark survivors while exploring. This should be a big deal; it's my first in-game confirmation that any of the other arks are around. I help them fight off a generic monster mob, then talk to their leader. He doesn't express surprise to see humans around. I don't express surprise to see Turians around. Vetra, who is in my party, has no lines. I do get another scanning quest though. gently caress me!

(3) I get to the top of the structure that has the angaran sages. I have a conversation with the sage where he brusquely informs me I have to leave, because this is a sacred place yada yada. Okay, fair enough. Then I exit the conversation and stroll around only to hear "deploying forward station" and boom, one of my big loving supply pods parks itself right on top of their sacred angarans-only clubhouse. Nobody remarks on this. gently caress OFF.

Ya know, it's funny, there's exactly one character in ME:A that I actively want to see more fleshed out, and that's the human with the Quarian name in the epilogue. Dayna vas Hyperion, I think it was. She mentioned Quarian godparents, but man, there's a story there.

This is an acceptable example of gameplay/story segregation, because if you had to do the entire platform jumping sequence every time you wanted to get up there, you'd see the Internet howling about that, and rightly so.

Admittedly, it would have been really easy to throw in a line or two handwaving it, but.....

When I told them I was the human pathfinder I thought they'd talk about the Nexus. Or do anything at all. It was really stupid.

I get the gameplay reasons for the forward station but the whole Sages bit made no sense at all. They're okay that the planet is dying, but where would they go? The Angara calling you Pathfinder in the Sage area and saying "hey it's great you're here you can help me out" feels like lazy writing instead.

All tasks -- everything where you FIND or SCAN or FETCH -- should be eschewed entirely in a theoretical ME:A2

Basically if they did a similar thing that they did in the transition from ME to ME2, that would be a huge benefit
