That R/C F104 is amazing, and that pilot is probably the best R/C pilot I've seen, everything was super smooth with almost none of the jerky flight I've come to associate with R/C aircraft flight.

Anyone who takes on a radio control jet is probably a serious hobby pilot. They're very expensive and even more unforgiving.

No poo poo. I remember being, like, *five* and happening across a guy while out with my mother flying a decently-sized RC plane for the mid-80s timeframe, and I *still* remember the look of utter venomous disdain he gave me when I in my youthful naivete asked "if I could have a turn."

Nowadays I realize he didn't want to hand over the controls of something that easily cost hundreds of dollars or more to a snot-nosed stranger kid who probably thought it'd be "just like Atari," but I think that look *took* five years off my life.

Nah I still wouldn't do this if I were controlling a multi-thousand dollar RC.

For an RC jet? You look at it funny and it'll lawn dart

An RC F-104 is giving the middle finger to fate though....

To be fair to a much younger you, it's possible to decline silly requests from someone who doesn't know any better without being an rear end in a top hat.

Dear diary, I got another erection today at work. SO embarrassing, but kinda hot. The CO asked me to fix up his dress uniform. I had stayed late at work to move his badges 1/8" to the left and pointed it out this morning. 1SG spanked me while the CO watched, once they caught it. Tomorrow I get to start all over again...
Now you can buy controllers that let you use a trainer mode. It was awesome to teach my dad how to fly an RC plane. I let him do all of it and when he got nervous or felt he uncomfortable I could take over with my controller. Thats a completely different story than letting some kid fly your RC jet obviously.

I don't mean for a jet model. A medium size outrunner model is a couple hundos and they don't get away from you that easily. And you can always say no without traumatizing a loving 5YO.

I've let multiple kids on the sticks of a completely bananas 5" quad, and it works just fine.

Yeah, that was definitely one of the more impressive displays I've seen. Although I still can't tell if that slow roll was intentionally that slow because that thing plummets towards the ground as it rolls inverted. He played it off well, though.

ERM... Actually I have stellar scores on the surveys, and every year students tell me that my classes are the best ones they’ve ever taken.

The Backfire always just looks so evil. I don't know if it's the huge shark-like vertical stab or the beady squinty cockpit windows or the giant fuckoff nuclear cruise missiles they're always carrying or just that it's so pointy, but that is one of the most threatening-looking planes there is. :allears:

It's a Su-17/22, I think. Same era as the MiG-21, but nowhere near as common.

e: yeah. That one must be a trainer model, but this looks right. The MiG-21-style fuselage and intake combined with the swing-wing is the giveaway.

It's a Suchoi Su-22. They are a good design for a 1960's fighter-bomber.

I think so too. The beady-squinty windows is accented, I think, with the M3's (?) bigger nose and raked jet intakes. It's a big shark of a airplane.

There was a Venezuelan flight that flew into a mountain obscured by clouds, though the they didn't mistake the clouds for mountains.

As for why they crashed into the mountain, the pilots were late getting on the flight, and so decided to omit the preflight checklist or to set the flight management system properly and just navigate through the Andes using a dashboard mounted compass. It didn't work out very well for them.
