That R/C F104 is amazing, and that pilot is probably the best R/C pilot I've seen, everything was super smooth with almost none of the jerky flight I've come to associate with R/C aircraft flight.

At the end I was half expecting the hatch to pop up and the little pilot to wave.

Nowadays I realize he didn't want to hand over the controls of something that easily cost hundreds of dollars or more to a snot-nosed stranger kid who probably thought it'd be "just like Atari," but I think that look *took* five years off my life.

It's loving trivial to just put your thumb and index fingers over a kid's thumbs to let them feel it out, that dude was just an rear end in a top hat.

Now you can buy controllers that let you use a trainer mode. It was awesome to teach my dad how to fly an RC plane. I let him do all of it and when he got nervous or felt he uncomfortable I could take over with my controller. Thats a completely different story than letting some kid fly your RC jet obviously.

Yeah, that was definitely one of the more impressive displays I've seen. Although I still can't tell if that slow roll was intentionally that slow because that thing plummets towards the ground as it rolls inverted. He played it off well, though.

The Backfire always just looks so evil. I don't know if it's the huge shark-like vertical stab or the beady squinty cockpit windows or the giant fuckoff nuclear cruise missiles they're always carrying or just that it's so pointy, but that is one of the most threatening-looking planes there is. Carth Dookie posted:What the heck is this? Same era as the MiG-21, but nowhere near as common. e: yeah. That one must be a trainer model, but this looks right. The MiG-21-style fuselage and intake combined with the swing-wing is the giveaway. They are a good design for a 1960's fighter-bomber. E. Beaten with superior information

Thanks. I thought it was a swing-wing, and it definitely isn't a MiG 23 so it should've been obvious.

I think so too. The beady-squinty windows is accented, I think, with the M3's (?) bigger nose and raked jet intakes. It's a big shark of a airplane.

ApathyGifted posted:Yeah, my thought process as I figured that photo out was: There was a Venezuelan flight that flew into a mountain obscured by clouds, though the they didn't mistake the clouds for mountains. As for why they crashed into the mountain, the pilots were late getting on the flight, and so decided to omit the preflight checklist or to set the flight management system properly and just navigate through the Andes using a dashboard mounted compass. It didn't work out very well for them.
