NC also had the worst (or at least the most obvious) voter suppression this last election cycle and clearly demonstrates why Shelby County v. Holder was such a travesty. For 2016, the NC legislature eliminated or severely curtailed the hours of hundreds of early voting locations, specifically targeting those in highly black areas. It's a really sorry state of affairs that as soon as the feds lose their authority to intervene when they suspect racially-motivated voter suppression, a southern state goes right back to loving 1964.
