Why doesn't the NHL stagger start times for the games? There's no reason for two 7 pm starts tonight.

I wish the NHL didn't stagger start times so that way the Oilers home games wouldn't start at 8-8:30 PM local.

How on earth did Calgary not score in the last three minutes last night? Didn't they have a 6 on 3 at one point?

Flames are bad, and didn't have a 6-on-3 because Gulutzan didn't pull Elliott until the first penalty expired because Gulutzan is bad.

There has been a notable decline in the quality of the Canadian national hockey program relative to the us and Europe. We're still good but not necessarily 100% dominant all the time as in the past

I would argue that all that tells you is other countries are catching up in skill, not that Canada is getting worse.

Because Europe and the US have definitely been cranking out some really good players in recent times.

That's exactly what it is - our program hadn't really changed in 20 years and became complacent. There's a whole bunch of changes coming over the next several years to try to catch back up to what Europe in particular has been doing. Their program is noticeably better for young kids which keeps more people playing the sport and helps increase the pool of athletes. The association my kids are in has seen numbers decline about 5% a year for the past 4 or 5 years because younger families get fed up with cost or excessive commitment or whatever else

You got Aquaman, Katz, and Melnyk alone in Canada. The Leafs and Flames spent a decade in the wilderness. Etc, etc

Every single year, at least 22 American teams lose while maximum 7 Canadian ones do.

The NHL is the level most would see

Most amateur teams are badly managed, not sure if that has been studied in a way that you could compare between countries whose amateur management is least worst

You left out Sheary. Do not underestimate the littlest man.
But yeah this team is still dangerous and Columbus doesn't seem to have an answer right now for what they're bringing. They have moments of looking dangerous but they can't seem to keep that pace.

No they are getting way better goaltending out of MAF than we did from Huet/Niemi.

That feels really awkward to type out.

Columbus has done pretty well possession-wise and I don't anticipate things being any easier in Columbus in that regard. Pens are doing a great job blocking shots and clogging the poo poo out of the middle though. Columbus hasn't done a good enough job going east-west to open up lanes.
