The EPB is city owned and offers 100Mbps, 1Gbits, or 10Gbits. This is a local government initiative, and they're killing it. It has revived the city and added thousands of more jobs. My internet loving owns. I'm a republican, but I'm a Tennessee Republican. There's value in taxpayer investment. Most Republicans do not see value in taxpayer investment, nor do they believe governments should be offering services that compete with corporations. Basically I don't get why you consider yourself a Republican, or do you believe socialism only gets it right with fast internet speeds?

Alpha Mayo posted:Most Republicans do not see value in taxpayer investment, nor do they believe governments should be offering services that compete with corporations. You could replace Republicans with Democrats in this sentence and it would still make perfect sense. Providing low-cost, efficient utilities to the population en mass through state intervention isn't a Democrat platform or a Republican platform, it's a platform that isn't represented anywhere in American politics (aside from one Sen. Bernardo Sanders (Independent)). The whole political class is in agreement that corporate profitmaking is the only thing worth worrying about. It's only dumb schmuck salarymen like you that think there's any value to mass provision of basic things everyone needs. There's no use pretending you're any closer to getting them because you vote for the blue team instead of the red. You're just comforting yourself by pretending your position makes sense whilst his doesn't.

perhaps with this intense self examination in the face of such an embarrassing loss to the greatest clown in the history of politics the democratic party will reevaluate the long drift of it's values towards political centrism and smug social bahahahahah

quote:Favreau thought Clinton’s campaign was reminiscent of John Kerry’s, where he had gotten his start in 2004—a bunch of operatives who were smart and accomplished in their own right but weren’t united by any common purpose larger than pushing a less-than-thrilling candidate into the White House. Hillary didn’t have a vision to articulate. And no one else could give one to her. In fact, the more people she assigned to the task of setting the tone for her campaign, the more muddled her message became. The list of writers on the first address included, but was not limited to, Schwerin, Muscatine, Favreau, Benenson, Mook, Palmieri, Podesta, Grunwald, Sullivan, and Schake, who was Michelle Obama’s image maven before joining the Clinton campaign.

Orkin Mang posted:yeah i read somewhere that a lot of people who vote republican really only do it bc of abortion, like lots of catholics are pretty liberal especially economically.lots of catholic thinkers--pope eg--are not libertarian capitalists and the church has a long history of being opposed to it. etcetc. its kind of a turnoff though when noone can articulate why they think abortion is okay, not saying there arent any arguments there certainly are but its not like people hate 'choice' or some bs when its an anthropological question and a very complex one. if my neighbor head was fused to my leg in a welding accident i cant cut him head off with a chisel right I grew up Catholic so maybe that explains my views, although I really don't give a poo poo about abortion. I'm agnostic and think there probably isn't a God, but I really like the current Pope and I actually agree with him on a ton of stuff. I went and saw the Vatican recently and it was pretty neat. I've been wondering lately if maybe I need to find God again. Pick posted:Israel made less sense to me before this election and I got to hear how many people actually do hate Jews. (What's to hate about 'em? They're totally normal.) I seriously don't get why the Jews get so much hate. I have a lot of Jewish friends and family and they're usually pretty cool.

I suppose its because in general its a multi-thousand year old fairly insular community so there is lots of neopotism involved (really a community helping itself). Also for a long time it was literally illegal for christians to charge each other interest so the banks were literally all controlled by jewish people. Who do people hate more than the landlord/tax collector? My friend told me he literally got a high paying job at apple because he was jewish and another jewish person wanted to give the job to another jewish person.

Hillary didn't lose because of doing such monumentally stupid things like setting up a private email server and keeping state department poo poo on an ordinary macbook, but it sure helped. ps the correct answer is that abortion is fine because you should be able to do whatever you want to your body.
