What a great day. I was never a Murray fan. I didn't agree with his blatant tanking strategy, especially trading away all those goalies that we could have used instead of trading a 1st for Lehner. Drafting Nylander instead of Chychrun, Sergachev or McAvoy is looking like a terrible move. The defense is just awful. Then he does nothing at the trade deadline. Good riddance

Buffalo should work out some way to get contracted and expanded-to in the same year. They could really use an expansion draft to shore up that roster.iospace posted:The Monkey's Paw finger curls, as Therrien leads the Buffalo Sabres to 3 cups in 5 years, knocking out the Habs in the ECF each time. Henderson had to retire because of that hit, so his claim for lost wages is pretty legit given how much officials make. Also, "getting decked by a player" is likely well beyond reasonable danger associated with his job. Also gently caress the Flames and gently caress Wideman.

I think the lawsuit against Wideman is bullshit because it seemed pretty clear he was out of sorts from getting his bell rung and didn't intentionally try to hurt Henderson. I know we had this argument last year about intent and many people disagreed but I'm really still kind of shocked that people are in favor of him being sued for $10 million. That's horseshit. Henderson deserves something but there has to be some sort of insurance that covers these types of accidents on the ice, right? Mind_Taker fucked around with this message at 23:08 on Apr 20, 2017 |

Well then good thing it's going in front of a judge who doesn't have the biases of the NHL DOPS to decide if a concussion is a defense against assault. (It's not.)

I don't think Wideman meant to hurt him but he did mean to just fling him out of the way recklessly so he could get off the ice. If I'm bleeding from a wound and I drop kick an old lady who is in my way as I try to get into the hospital I should probably still be liable for damages caused to the old lady even though I'm in distress and not thinking clearly.

Well he clearly attacked him purposely so it's understandable that people would believe Wideman attacked him purposely. And no, insurance doesn't cover "accidents" that are factually decking someone from behind on purpose.

Also another Canucks d-man has gone to Russia: https://twitter.com/khl_eng/status/855035088148549632 Larsen sucks so it's no big loss, but the timing with Tryamkin also gone is funny. They should pick up a good Canadian boy like Kris Russell. He'll never abandon them for Russia!

I think there is a case to be made for him not doing anything purposefully at all, especially if he didn't see him until the last second (which I can believe, given that his head was just slammed into the boards like 5-10 seconds earlier). I really think he instinctively raised his arms at the last second to protect himself rather than trying to make contact with him and the video really makes it hard for me to believe the alternative that he set out to deck the guy.

Also Henderson had a rare earth magnet in his pocket that was coincidentally the opposite polarity to the one Wideman was also carrying, which explains the violent launch.

I don't think Wideman has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the suit but he does have enough to present a "my head was scrambled eggs" defense. But he still won't win, he skated just fine for 60 feet, then blacked out and hit a ref? Yeah not gonna cut it.

I don't believe for a second it was accidental. He skated with purpose right at Henderson, the only way I'd believe it was an accident is if somebody can prove to me that the hit Wideman took hosed him up so bad that he thought the ref was the guy who hit him. He pauses right before he decks him, too. I'm a Flames fan and I have no need or desire to defend Wideman whatsoever. Yeah. Every time I've seen that video I see anger or frustration, not disorientation. He skated toward his bench with his head up the whole way and, when the play continues to draw the linesman toward him, Wideman just throws a crosscheck into his upper back and continues right through the bench door and sits down. There's no stumbling, there's no losing his direction, his balance seems perfect. After they stop play and you see his face on the bench he seems like he's in pain but he's talking fine to his teammates and his eyes look clear. I think it was pure frustration and he very much intended to hit the linesman in that moment when their paths crossed. If it had worked out that the play went the other way I don't think Wideman chases him or anything, but he's the angry guy walking down the sidewalk kicking stuff that gets in his path.

I guess I just don't see intent or anger. The thing that gets me is the way he sidesteps as contact is made. If he really wanted to deck him I feel like it would have looked a lot different. It looks like he is trying to avoid him with his body but his arms go up. And gently caress I don't like the dude. I still hate him for his lazy as poo poo play in 3OT against the Rangers in 2012. This isn't the hill I want to die on so I'll drop it.
