A "Have you tried..." list for Persona 5 would be pretty long.

Though admittedly half of that is the people who don't read tutorials and never realise you can press square on the map screen to see who's where.

Have you tried... Doing crosswords in Leblanc?
Have you tried... Drawing on the blackboard in your class?
Have you tried... Feeding your plant?
Have you tried... Dunking on Mishima at every opportunity?

Yes
Yes
Yes
Sometimes

But different thief tools in different tabs is the one that got me because NOBODY mentioned that I was just like "Wait... are those different headings?"

How does one do crosswords? I've done everything else. Also, I'm running low on bosses I can confuse for money, is there any other way of getting good amounts of money on Merciless?

There's sometimes a newspaper on the leftmost table. There's a minigame, but I think it's always less efficient than studying?

On certain days they'll be a crossword book sitting in the booth closest to your room in LeBlanc.

Every time I finish a Persona game I feel this compulsion to buy stupid amounts of Persona merch. Then I poke around online, find very little and all of it I'd have to import from Japan and give up.

Palace 5 is the worst one so far I think. It goes on for far too long, has annoying gimmicks and enemies, and I'm not really invested in the story behind it. I'm at the final gimmick section and I just want to die.

100% agree. It's the absolute worst palace, and it's at the point where you can really beat them in one day.
The music gave me a headache, the gimmicks weren't fun. The story is weak and the boss is my least favorite in the entire game. Just because it's designed better than Palace 4 boss doesn't mean I hate it less.

It's really the only one that's out of place aesthetically though.

All of the Palaces share a theme: they are all places a thief would want to rob. A castle full of treasure, an art museum, a bank, a casino, a cruise ship, an Egyptian tomb...but a space base? Feels out of place. I don't mind it because the "corporate rear end in a top hat views employees as robots" is a pretty easy sell and I enjoyed smashing up the robots, even if the guessing game was kinda dumb at the end. But it's easily the odd man out of the group. All of the other dungeons are pretty universally excellent; the space base is the only one that feels like a slog.

The whole thing is one extended Star Wars reference. You sneak onto the Death Star to rescue Princess Leia and also steal the plans for the enemy superweapon (ie: get info on the mental shutdowns from him). Princess Leia is also Luke Skywalker and has to fight her father. Okumura is literally dressed up as Darth Vader. I mean, I agree it goes on too long in every section, but I think it has a solid "heist" theme, at least at much as a Pyramid does.

I guess I can see it, but I wouldn't really say it's strictly Star Wars, it feels like a mishmash of "classic" sci-fi references, with Okumura resembling some absurd evil space commander from a cheesy 70's movie. And either way, it still feels out of place in terms of "places you'd want to rob" as a unifying location theme. Pyramid only seems out of place until you consider that robbing pyramids has been the pasttime of thieves since time immemorial.

The Great Twist
The airlock puzzle wasn't too bad until I tried to do the last section (with the automatic locks) with no SP and couldn't fight Scathach everywhere. I had to duck through one of the automatic ones to avoid a fight, and the only way to progress was to backtrack all the way to the beginning of the zone again.

The biggest sin of palace design is that you never rob a train

Japan knows enough western tropes that that would have been fine, right?

I never really understood how the airlocks worked in the second area. It's just that you basically never have an option to go two different ways so if you just go forward you'll make it to the end eventually.

The green airlocks switch when you pass through them as opposed to having a switch. You know, after playing The Witness, standard RPG puzzles feel a lot easier!

He's literally wearing a Darth Vader costume in its entirety, he just has a cheesy helmet so you can see his face. ...Although I guess the helmet is the most iconic part of Darth Vader's costume.

And in terms of the universal themes, it's the classic enemy fortress that you need to rescue someone from and/or sabotage.

Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

The airlock thing probably wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't also done the Barracks in the same day. Doing the whole dungeon in one go is pretty miserable. I thought the Barracks was going to be kind of a cool puzzle, but in practice, it's super tedious and having enemies respawn all the drat time there was really draining.
