We all know what Aaron did was horrific. Killing those people. Ain't nobody going to excuse that. BUT. Aaron Hernandez took it upon himself to stop a murderer. And it cost him his life. We used to call those people heroes.

It's true. When I watch a professional basketball team play basketball and they score many points and then stop scoring many points and let the other team score points I think "poo poo, this is like the time the most iconic civil rights leader in American history got shot." Trauma is real fam.

I may he misremembering, but wasn't the MLK thing from a podcast? It's still an insane take, but it's at least a bit more understandable if it's something he said off the cuff than if he wrote it down, thought about it, and defended it to his editor before putting it up. Overall Simmons' takes have never been the hottest or the most offensive, but they're certainly some of the strangest. General Dog fucked around with this message at 16:33 on Apr 23, 2017 |

Personally I think the reason that shots aren't falling for the Knicks is because of the memory of those towers falling on 9/11.

That's probably just one of those canned obits that the NYT/AP keeps on hand so they can have something on the wire at a moment's notice and it got printed by mistake. A few years ago they printed Warren Buffett's (age 78, hanged himself in prison), and in the early 90s pre-internet there were a couple days confusion where everybody thought Liz Taylor hanged herself in prison.

I hope they don't can Justin Verrier who is their beat reporter for the Pelicans. He's actually pretty dang good for an out-of-towner.

They used to have NFL beat writers for each division (an NFC West guy, a AFC East guy, etc.) instead of every team. It wouldn't surprise me if they go back to that just so they have fewer people to pay.

This whole article is kind of a wandering morass of blather but this one quote in particular is so incredibly stupid:quote:There are, in fact, people who can support the Duncan way with data. A small but growing number of experts keep databases of NBA injuries. And when I reached out by phone to one injury analyst -- who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of losing work he does for the league -- he said something mind-blowing: The NBA has a 100 percent injury rate. Every NBA player, he said, is injured now, or will be if he keeps playing long enough. You might imagine that a player who went 50 or 100 healthy games had acquired a body that had adjusted to the league. "No," says this guy. I guess it might be mind-blowing if you've never played sports in your entire life. And also are an idiot.
