CIG used to do something stupid/interesting/hilarious over and again at a good pace. But lately it has been nothing but the same old scam for what feels like years now.

Basically, game is dead. RIP

Mr. Chambers was acting like there was a guy just offscreen holding a gun to the head of a loved one. But with that said, if you ignored the history of the game's development and the technical impossibility of making what they are doing into a true MMO (more than 36 players in an "instance" seems to be impossible), they do talk a good game. I could believe after viewing that (first ATV I've watched in its entirety), that they could build an interesting game to fly in and explore if they had another two years of development. Am I just being a delusional alcoholic here? Or can we admit that it could eventually be a game that doesn't completely suck (again, setting aside the likely money issues they have and the networking issues they will almost certainly have)? I'm curious to hear other's thoughts.

I would say it won't happen, and will never happen. I say that because I believe history has shown that, in order to have a good game, you have to have a good idea to begin with. Just throwing whatever comes into your mind at the wall to see what will stick is just not the way to make a winning game.

For example, look at Wolfenstein. It had pretty much a single coherent idea. Shoot mad science Nazis with mad science guns. Yeah, it would go through a 2D to 2.5D to 3D to really neat 3D to REALLY NEAT 3D journey along the way. But it was always pretty much the same idea (and even the same hero). Kill lotsa Nazis with wacky weapons. Granted it is not the biggest franchise ever, but even 1981 beats Chris by quite a way.

Or System Shock/System Shock 2/Bioshock/NightDive System Shock. There is one master enemy, a really screwed up environment, and you have to figure out what is going on, and murder everything between you and the solution using whatever's not nailed down. with light RPG character customization. Bonus points for body horror and chilling weirdness. Alright, granted Bioshock.* is more a spiritual successor, but it does stick to the themes of madness, science gone sideways, and starting out with not even a minimal clue, with a healthy seasoning of being a dubious hero seeking redemption.

Or Doom with it's avant garde subtle theme of MURDER ALL OF HELL! (And there's a game most everyone's heard of.)

All of these games are well known, and, at least, reasonably well regarded. Why? They picked a theme and gameplay mechanics they wanted then built a game around. They stuck with it and made it happen. They didn't keep shifting to the trend of the day.

At this point, I might cite Polonius stating "To thy ownself, be true" but CIG doesn't even have a clue who SC/SQ42 was from day one. People keep talking about Chris' "vision". But having a vision is not saying "Sounds cool. Stick it in." A vision is a guideline, a lifeline to find your way through the turbulent seas of project development. All CIG does is paddle in circles as no one brought a compass...

The same "WE HAVE PARTICLE EFFECTS! USE THEM!" dictum that leads to the dust clouds on the Olisar and CryAstro landing pads. I mean, seriously, CIG spent good backer money on the particle tech, they owe it to the backers to use them whenever possible. Besides, they are cool, right?

There's no argument over the quality of Chris's movie or the benefits of his Hollywood career. The only angle they have is the plausibility that he made any money from his film projects. After Wing Commander bombing, his only value to Hollywood was being a source of financing. Not even his rabid fans can spin it into something praiseworthy.

They are god drat incompetent that any deadline they set themselves is both late and completely misses the goals of what said deadline was supposed to have, they have never shown a work in progress of what they are trying to do(that's not just a .jpg), any time you ask you are either ignored by RSI or slammed by shittizens. Even if we ignore history of their now scam, imagine a room of 10 years thinking up video game ideas, this is Chis Roberts brain, he has no filter on any idea, dreams about it being created and berates anyone who questions the idea.

Could the game have ever been good? Well yeah, look at the Kickstarter. Most here backed the game because of it, it's got ideas that if Chris Roberts assembled a team that didn't consist of his buddies from the days of Digital Anvil, could have turned out ok, but alas he did, it's beyond hosed now, You couldn't get Infinity Ward, Rockstar and DICE into a room, payed them a billion bucks and told them to fix this poo poo without starting from scratch.
