california has a roaring economy, excellent weather, fertile land, tons of good schools, a huge defecit in housing construction, and high demand for housing. It's not a housing bubble because housing prices are not being driven mostly by speculation. If/when demand falls off or supply increases, prices may pull back, but they won't crash like they did in 2007/8 because there's no subprime mortgage crisis.

Just wanted to say I spent a few days in Sacramento and really liked it. And going to a grocery store there after four years of living in Humboldt was absolutely infuriating. I remember food being cheaper in the Central Valley, but I forgot just how cheap.

I remember driving back from temecula and picking up 15 avocados for $5 (or was it $3?) and a huge bag of oranges for cheap too. I want to bring some friends to Temecula (from Orange County) but the 91 is a poo poo show, the 76/78 is quite the detour and I can't guarantee that I'll still have friends after taking the Ortega. Has anyone ever actually been on the Ortega as a passenger? I feel it would make anyone sick if they weren't the driver.

I've driven it plenty of times, as a driver and passenger. It's fine. Going to Big Bear is much worse. If you're worried, go all the way down to Oceanside, take 76 to Pala. Stay at the casino, drink a 40 oz souvenir cup of Stone pale ale for $12, spend some time at the pool. It's a short drive to Temecula from there. The last wedding I was at down there, we had rented a bus to take us from the casino to all of the wineries for the day.

After attending a wedding in Lake Arrowhead, me and another driver talked about how the passengers were basically passed out (for good reason, and I think I would have preferred to drive) and we (the drivers) had to navigate ourselves.

I know downtown is an hour by bus from Marin City, which is like, the northern tip of Sausalito. I don't know if I could tolerate that, but I guess different people have different tolerances. I do know people who commute from further north by driving to Larkspur and taking the ferry in to the city, and by working from home one day a week (as opposed to five, as god intended).

Yeah it looks like I'm going to have to try some kind of ride sharing even though it's going to cost a billion dollars to go there and back. The two trains would take longer and would be pretty expensive anyway. Unless I can find some kind of tour bus that isn't a scam

Assuming the uber fare estimator is correct I'd save 30-50 bucks round trip in exchange for 1.5-2 hours of travel time since I'm going with someone else so 2 train tickets vs 1 uber. Honestly, there is a realization that legal recreation weed will probably live or die based on California and will likely be the model if done successfully, so there is a lot of pressure to do it write. Yes, other states did it first, but on things like this California tends to indicate what the nation will do in 20 years. Also, California's administrative procedures act (also copied by many states!) is quite cumbersome for something this big. And unlike many propositions, this one didn't come with a lot of cut and dry rules which makes the APA process necessary.

In L.A., one of the police bigwigs is really, really against legalized pot (to the point where I believe he said something like no compelling medical reason to legalize it). Understandably this leads to a lot of examination of providers under the lens of " too close to a school". So at the very least I hope they're finding ways to minimize that being a huge critique.

Here in San Luis Obispo, A/C is not typical in most of the housing. Newer construction (what little there is) may have it. Up over Cuesta Grade, in places like Atascadero and Paso Robles, A/C is pretty standard, because they see much more heat than we do. I had to buy a portable A/C unit last year, so my girlfriend wouldn't murder me, and it is not keeping up with the demand. About to head to the coast until the sun goes down.

My old townhouse only had central heating, so we bought a portable unit and set it up in the living room. We suffered through a tower fan blowing hot air everywhere in the bedroom, since the walls pretty much radiated heat until 2-3 am during summer.
