I used to enjoy Dan's political rants. They were short, and Jeff and Spencer would give him poo poo for his uninformed rambling. But since Trump became president it feels like every episode has an hour of Dan rambling on about race and the state of the country and Jeff occasionally chiming in to agree that yes, this is a very scary time.

I just started listening to Harmontown a few weeks ago, and arbitrarily started at around episode 130. I've been alternating between working my way up from 130, and listening to the new ones when they come out, and despite Shadowrun kind of sucking, I really prefer the older ones where there was political stuff but it didn't dominate the podcast. The newer ones really do feel like super long political rants.

Yes if there's one thing missing in the US right now it's people ranting about politics

Start from episode 1, The show starts off much stronger than most podcasts.

The country has kind of hosed itself pretty hard with this one. It's an unusual situation.

This is true. I think they had been doing the shows without taping them for a while, so they had most of the kinks worked out already. I remember Dan mentioning that they'd had Dana Dearmond (a pornographic actor) on, and that's not on any of the episodes that are downloadable.

I think Harmontown has left typical western story structure and is now into long running shonen manga format

You are crazy. The podcast was best when the average episode was Jeff and Dan banter->Dan and Erin have an argument on stage->drunken D&D

I've tried to listen to other D&D podcasts, where the players aren't drunk, and it's nowhere near as good.

I mean, come on, this was amazing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrEJYKfSp00

That's amazing because it turns into D&D:Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, not because they're drunk.

It sounds like they're bringing D&D back in the new location though?

I'd hope that's the reason they keep saying "next time" and it doesn't happen. There have been a few instances Jeff says they'll roll characters and start next time. I think they got around to talking about characters but I don't know if they're fully sorted.

In the last podcast (or maybe the one before that), they said that they'd fully created characters and were ready to start up once they were in the new location.

The one about the cars? I was wondering that as well but since cartoons can take years to produce depending on who is financing and distributing I figured it was just in limbo.

If Dan were the slightest bit actually informed about current politics beyond whatever regurgitated half-understood blog post he had currently read, spoken from a position of utter privilege both as a white cis man and extremely, absurdly rich, he'd have a point to the ramblings, but I can just open twitter and type in "shareblue" if I want to read a neoliberal whine about how racist the US is.
