Ft. Meade is alright. Most nobles live near Waagh! Chapel in Crofton, which has been built up a *lot* to compensate for all the high ranked officers living in the gated community there. They even have one of those 60mph go-kart tracks there.

I spent years in Crofton and Odenton. Last year I moved to Silverspring for better metro access. Longer commute, but I can go into DC whenever I want.

Huh. I figured VA beach was full of hipsters and poo poo.

Had a dude get snuffed a block down from my apartment at 4 am last week, which is weird as gently caress cause there hasn't been a murder in Fells Point in 2 years.

When I was in Dam Neck last year I had evening courses so I never went into town at night. Seemed pretty boring.

Great Dismal Swamp for walking around in the worldwide orignator of cholera and probably the Venus Flytrap.

Hit up the Aquarium and the Zoo, both are fantastic and should still give pretty deep military discounts.

Go down to Nauticus and see the USS Wisconsin. If all you want is to walk around the battleship, it's free. There's a nifty memorial park down there, too, as well as some plaques about the first battle of the ironclads that happened within sight.

Norfolk in the summer is actually pretty sweet. That memorial park babyeatingpyschopath mentioned has a lot of summer events and concerts.

There's also some delicious food to be found in the area:
- Route 58, go get yourself an amazing reuben (bring a friend)
- Wine/Cheese shop in Williamsburg (Get a bottle of wine, a sandwich, and some delicious bread ends with some soup)
- Gastropub (go on Trivia night, get there a litte early), AW Shucks beforehand for some seafood dinner
- Hair of the Dog (for brunch)
- Go find a craft beer festival or just do a craft beer tour - Tidewater has a BUNCH of craft breweries

There's more. I hated Virginia, but I really like Norfolk, it's a really underrated city (all the surrounding cities can go gently caress themselves)

Sweet. I'm at Group doing what has to be the biggest waste of time and money ever for my unit regarding schools, just to get my crew serve quals. But honestly, I never wanted to be stationed in VA, but I kinda dig the area and I could potentially go NSW support here next. I'll need some good eats to destress from the dumb as gently caress MAs finally feeling like their rate isn't redundant, because hey guys lets spend another hour and a half going over what we spent 8 hours going over in the class. After hours.

Also, Mojito Cafe near the board walk makes some bangin mojitos and some great Cuban eats.

Idk if they've changed this, but in 2009 you could drink on the beach at Dam Neck, which was a good enough reason to not go to VA Beach.

Hang in there bros. I actually felt kinda weird and listless at first and kinda missed the Navy some days. Luckily that poo poo passed in a couple weeks and I'm about to start school on that sweet, sweet GI bill. If you're doing the same, make sure to sign up for the Pell grant and whatever others you can qualify for - between GI housing allowance, Pell grant, and the university grant, I'll be making something like 23k a year just to go to college.

Still in the drilling reserves too so I get a nice in-person reminder every month of why I left that poo poo behind. They just rescheduled this month's drill & PRT two weeks to the right giving me 3 days notice.

Do they still call themselves NMCI this long after NMCI lost all the contracts to HP? I thought it was NMET now or something similarly stupid.

I remember when HP got the contract and then nothing changed except i saw NMET in a few places. I wondered if they would ever make the full name switch or just keep NMCI.

On shore duty we didn't have NIPR/SIPR NMCI for over a month at one point because someone didn't call digger's hotline before dropping a backhoe into some concrete.

That was the best month of my life.
