The Futurama episode commentaries are great too. It's a bunch of the writers/ directors and usually some of the voice cast, they joke around and tell stories and bitch about Fox cancelling the show.

This has already happened a bunch. LD releases of a lot of movies had commentaries or other special features that were absent from later releases.

I really don't see why (or understand why they haven't already) just built that poo poo into netflix or what not. Just have a little button for commentary if available.

iTunes has extras for a lot of their movies, some times including commentaries. Microsoft's store now has some as well.

Commentaries are really the only extras I miss from physical media, there are lots of good ones.

Roger Ebert did a few, Citizen Kane, Dark City and a few others and they were interesting listens.

I'm a bit biased on this one. I think it's fair to say they're both enjoyable films, but it's a bit of an odd comparison. The first GotG was the best Star Wars film since Empire, and the new one is much more about it's own mythos. Yondu steals the show, and the villain is possibly one of the most enjoyable in Marvel films so far, and has much more to him than generic evil motivation plus sky laser.

Lots of good character moments for Rocket, Yondu, Star-Lord, and Gamora. However, Drax does suffer from becoming a bit of a joke character, as opposed to his character in the original. There's some fresh and nice jokes, and the visuals in terms of colour and stylization are much more adventurous than your typical Marvel fare.

e: Mantis was a bit under-written, but on some level I'm glad some characters got a bit sidelined as there's so many that if everyone had equal focus it would feel too disjointed.

if we're mentioning TV shows, then the Venture Bros commentary tracks are basically all gold.

Also, someone mentioned Carpenter and Kurt Russel. Those tracks are awesome, especially the one for The Thing.

Did someone recommend the RLM Phantom Menace commentary in this thread? Because it loving sucks. You know how you can't recommend the prequel youtube videos to people because they've got a bunch of terrible jokes about killing hookers? Like 15 minutes in, and this commentary seems to be entirely Mr. Plinkett digressions about killing hookers or putting cats in washing machines or loving nemodians. It's awful.

I also saw GOTG2 yesterday. I "liked" it a lot more than the first one, which I thought was just a slightly better Avengers rehash.
It doesn't need to set up stuff so it gets straight to the action but after a while you realise that there's ZERO plot and it's just a series of scenes designed to get from set piece to set piece.
Which is fine! It's all nonsense anyway. It has a good sci fi aesthetic.

Kurt Russell hams it to the extreme which is always good.
Michael Rooker gets a lot of screen time, also always good.

The insufferable 80s references remain but it seems like they toned them back a bit. Every time a character mentions mix tapes my eyes rolled back into my skull.

Overall it was one of the better marvel movies to watch but had zero memorable/amazing scenes or moments.

On the scale of Endless Trash to Iron Man 3, I'd say it's somewhere in the middle.

If you listen to his autobiography Flash Gordon was one of his favourite comics growing up, so there's a genuine love for the material, much like how Samuel L. Jackson was so pumped to be in the Star Wars prequels. Warms the heart :allears:
