I think Garchomp's niche is primarily in singles -- maximum beef and maximum poke works wonders still for dealing with physical attackers. For Talonflame, it makes for a decent starter in doubles with Tailwind at least.

I'm noticing a trend of people not using Magnet Pull on Magnezone anymore and going for Analytic based on the idea that people will either have a Shed Shell on their Skarmory/other steel type or will just assume you have Magnet Pull and not even try to switch out so you might as well get that extra damage from Analytic which could also trick the other guy into thinking you have an Expert Belt or Specs because of the increased damage. Rock Head/Lightning Rod Alola Marowak is another one that people try to bluff, but that goes right out the window as soon as you Flare Blitz or the Koko uses Thunderbolt instead of U-Turn when you switch in. Apparently Nidoqueen but Timid instead of Modest is also a thing catching people by surprise. Pokemon metagaming sure is something.

Hi Pokegoons! Random breeding question here. So I want to have my whole competitive team in Luxury Balls, but I've got two starters on my team (one from Gen III and another from Gen IV) who, so far as I can tell, can't be found in the wild to allow for non-standard pokeballs. Problem is, according to Serebii's pokeball legitimacy chart it says you can obtain starters from those generations in non-standard pokeballs. My question is, how is that even possible? So far as I can tell the only way to legitimately do that is to obtain (or breed) a pokemon caught from some random Korean event from Gen V. Am I missing anything here?

Not sure about Gen III, but you can get Gen IV starters from Island Scan. Different ones are available on different days. Do that and you can get your Luxury Ball Ganonpig or whoever. Somebody else weigh in on Gen III dudes. I'm drawing a blank.

For a second I was thinking it might have been because of that New Year's set where they came in cherish balls, but that was the Gen V ones too... I really have no idea where else you could get starters outside of a normal ball. Were they ever part of some dream world event? One where they were a code or a prize or something that you had to go to the special park thing to catch them? That's all I can come up with, but seems unlikely. If that happened, you'd have to really, REALLY hope someone got them in Luxury balls and can trade/clone them to you.

That's the only way to get them in anything other than a standard pokeball.

less laughter posted:Emboar is gen V. You could get them in the Dream World thing in B2W2, and you could have caught them in a luxury ball, and then transferred them forward. Dream World is shut down now though, so the trick is either finding someone with one, or simply hacking one, because it's technically a possible combination. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1l9gztGtUDcVXX21nFsdN3m3B-D7NpkLbgSrILpv3gug/edit#gid=1217519108 <- this has all the available balls for each pokemon and if the HA is accessible. The Gen III starters are also available in Luxury Ball, but even more difficult to find. They came from a Japanese event @ lvl 10 in 2010/11 where you could capture it in any ball you had, which meant any non-apricorn ball. So basically you should cheat, but they're legal once you breed one.

I guess I'm off to find these guys in Luxury Balls, since (as you pointed out), it's a legal combination and they'll be perfectly legal once I breed my own.

But not in a Cherish Ball! Real talk, is Lycanroc even any good? I see Midday used sometimes since it's a fast offensive Rock-type (with awful coverage), but I don't see Midnight used much.

Steven probably would've been better if his games hadn't been poo poo, and Iris was a better swap out than Wallace. But they still don't compare. Everyone else was complete poo poo; yes, even Red.
