Nasgate posted:Imho veggie burgers are akin to calling a grilled eggplant "veggie steak" Eggplant is one of the many, many things I went through life thinking was disgusting only to find out that it's actually amazing and my mom, bless her, was just godawful at cooking it. Unseasoned eggplant slices with the skin still on, cooked to the consistency of jelly and floating in spaghetti sauce? Euugh. But peel of, sweat it, dip it in egg, dust it with parmesean and seasoned breadcrumbs, and bake it until it's crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside?

what is it with moms and unseasoned vegetables like most of the reason kids don't like vegetables is that their parents are bad cooks

Yeah my mum is an awful cook, unseasoned vegetables boiled to mush. She was never great then one day read that salt was the work of the devil and ugh.

So I've been wiki-hopping and I found this article about player types made by a guy in the 90s. And it's fascinating? I'd mark myself down as a Socializer if I had to pick one (as I love games that are heavy on stories - and experiences I can then relay to friends, like cool deaths in roguelikes) but reading out the other types and thinking about that is just cool. Although this test thinks I'm an explorer - but it seemed to be more oriented towards MMOs than the kinds of games I prefer to play. I'm not into collecting bear butts or games where you're in multiplayer all the time.

As a kid I was always super confused by TV shows having the mom as the cook and the dad as incompetent because my mom could barely do anything more complicated than baking frozen meals while my dad grew up in the Phillipines and could whip up, say, an amazing chicken adobo like it was nothing.

Yeah, no kidding. If I'm playing Borderlands with friends (shush it's fun) then I don't bother to read the dialogue, we're here to shoot things. When I play alone, I read every line. ... I'm not the smartest player on the block but listen: unless it's a tabletop game then no one cares about the deep writing in a game if they're playing with pals. That said it would be cool to have a lore/exploration heavy game (Minecraft? Terrarria?) where you go around exploring and learning things with friends instead of killing crabs.

To this day my mom insists she hates salt. She's getting a little better--it helps that she and dad are watching a lot of food shows in their retirement, to the point that dad bought a sous vide circulator because he had to have one--but man, I had a childhood of awful food. Somehow I came out of it liking a really wide variety of foods and wanting to try just about everything, but I could've easily been like "I will never touch anything green again for it is all mushy bullshit."

A bagel itself is not a sandwich and a bagel with spread probably isn't a sandwich but a bagel can also be used as bread for a sandwich This is my hot take on bagels, thank you for reading A burger is a sandwich

There's an ongoing forest fire where I live and everything is super ashy today, and a bunch of people on Facebook are posting Silent Hill memes but it's all from the movie. On one hand it's cool that this weird Japanese survival horror game managed to somehow become A Thing for an entire generation of people but on the other hand I kind of want to shake them and be like "Pyramid Head worked way better as the avatar of James Sunderland's guilt! And the fog being smoke from a coal fire wasn't even in the games! They look like monsters to you?"
