In case you're confused like I was, since the KS page doesn't really make a mention of it, here's the page about the referral program on the game's site. This isn't a way to start your page if you're trying to convince people that you're not some sort of pyramid scheme: quote:Ashes of Creation offers our players a unique opportunity to benefit from the game’s success. Refer and invite new players and receive 15% of their account purchases back in either in-game credits, reduced subscription or cash back. e: Hadn't read this whole thing before posting, and don't worry guys, they address our fears at the bottom of the page: quote:This is a scam, a pyramid scheme! Yikes! Our referral program rewards you for bringing in customers of our product Ashes of Creation, similar to a simple affiliate program, like Amazon. Furthermore, it requires no investment on the part of the referrer to participate. Yes, this is exactly how coupon referral codes work. Correct. Steven_AoC posted:Hey guys! I have read some of the posts about our referral program, as well as concern over my income from Multi-Level Marketing. I am personally one who strongly believes in transparency and want to be as involved in the community as possible! So I will give some input to this discussion. When I was 15 I started a Marketing business, trying to sell nutritional drinks using commercials on AM talk radio stations. This became very successful very quick, and when I turned 18 I decided to start working for a company called XanGo. I wasn't the "CEO" of XanGo as some people are saying, nor did I help create the company... I was just a normal sign up, and I created a website that, I used my marketing company to help promote and sell their juice and vitamins with.. By the time I was 20, I was selling a lot of the juice and vitamins, and rose to be one of the top sellers of the company. About 7 years ago I moved into investments and real estate, which is the source of a majority of my success. Many people consider the MLM industry to be a pyramid scheme, but there are actually good MLMs out there, that can provide people with good incomes. I was lucky to find a good one that had great products, and that allowed me at a young age to become successful enough to begin investing and buying real estate.

Assuming I want to play this game (and by game I mean scam) and maximize my money, I want to get as many referrals as possible. I guess it differs from traditional MLM in that I want to flatten the pyramid as much as possible to maximize my own gains. However, my basic strategy remains the same: get in early, snap up referrals as soon as possible. The fact that my referrals may potentially make me less money as they gain referrals only means I have to work harder to get more of them myself. But I don't get your point about being "worse off" - if i get in early, even if I make less money per referral, I'm still likely to have far more referrals overall.

That just makes it a less effective pyramid scheme. Or to sorta quote Rick and Morty, that just sounds like a pyramid scheme with extra steps!

Except you don't need to buy anything. All you need to do to get kickbacks is to hand out a code. So you're better off not buying anything, just directly selling, which is gonna kill the network system that makes MLMs survive. It's gig economy marketing. It's substantially dumber and less effective than a pyramid scheme with all the same drawbacks.

Ashes of Creation - A New BeginningAshes of Creation posted:Great things come from small beginnings. In games, it often starts with vision. From years of being involved in the MMO genre, playing games such as Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, and Final Fantasy 14 (among many others) there always seemed to be something lacking. Sometimes PvP was masterfully incorporated into the game, others had dungeons so fun you forgot what PvP even stood for, while a few had great new ideas that were like a breath of fresh air. The problem always seemed to come with the trade you made in order to enjoy a certain aspect. Our vision is to tie all of these elements together, to make a complete game that specializes not in one category, but rather aims for the ultimate goal of perfection. We know: that’s a tall order.

There was an MMO a bunch of years back where you started out at a riverbank in ancient Egypt and had to build a civilisation from there. Predictably it turned into a game about who could build the biggest virtual penis.

Well the "joke" would be that it's "really" making the coffee. It's just gonna prebrewed poo poo mildly heated up from how warm the phone already got in your pocket. Less than 25 milliliters of it at a time. They probably do fully intend to sell it. Juicero of coffee.

The credit card tie and the iPhone case coffee maker look like something that would feature in a Mr. Bean sketch, he'd make a big show out of using them but no one around him would notice or care. Or they'd be mildly annoyed by his antics.
