Like I would of liked Ashi a lot more if after the escape she realized she was wrong and went off to do her own thing. Hell keep the fanservice episode just to show her that Jacks done more good for the world then anything else. As is she feels like a definition of a mary sue character and I can't stand the writing around her. Her tragic backstory wound up being utterly pointless and she just exudes perfection at literally everything she does to the point most of these episodes have turned into "Jack is in danger how can Ashi be the hero this time  " It's as if the Bounty Hunter princess suddenly stopped caring about her people just because Jack didn't kill her and joined up with him. The love story stuff just feels so hamhanded it sucks a lot of energy out of the show for me. Feel free to disagree but this wasn't what I was hoping for when I heard "Jack was back"

I'm not against the relationship, but this episode was just not great. Every other episode was better by a long shot. Even Jack's tea party had more redeeming qualities.

I realize I'm not even complaining about the episode for the same reasons as everybody else (I mean I don't like it, chiefly because Ashi just isn't a deep enough character to get this much screentime, but I kinda accepted it as inevitable ever since Ashi regularly started getting framed with "alluring" eyes), I am legit bummed out at how lame the desert/spaceship exploration was compared to how the original series would have done it. Jack having to explain every single room as he comes across it. Every single room having an obvious spelled out purpose to begin with. Literally the second line of the intro is "I do not age." The "he's actually a hundred, gross" thing is pretty pedantic. I mean the relationship as a whole has its issues, Ashi is obviously not a mature individual who's prepared for this sorta thing, but. Jack's age is the least of the problems here. Now that you mention it I think Other M literally had a boss that was a bunch of tiny bugs that form up. And they're stuck on a I was initially getting more of a Fusion vibe but if that were the case Mad Jack would've been shambling around in some air vents

Yea I think that's the true implication of what everyone is upset about. Crazy age difference romances happen in fiction all the time (LOTR for example, humanoid robots, aliens). Where they kinda dropped the ball here is that Ashi can be compared to a person who just got out of an abusive relationship. Sure she might find someone who's great for her, but in a practical real world sense it'd be a lot healthier to give them time to work out stuff out internally instead of jumping into something else. Of course its a cartoon but it still pings the "hmm something aint quite right" center of the brain.

With all this content and pacing issues its pretty obvious they realized they wouldn't have another chance at this since this is the last season so instead of cutting it out they decided to squeeze it in. I think this isn't that different than the anime excuse of "but it's okay to have sexual attraction to this underage looking character because she's actually 1000 years old!". There are many ways to excuse a controversial relationship in fiction with in plot justification, but at the end of the day why are we going down the road in the first place? Why even bone the extremely sheltered 18 year old who was brainwashed for most of their lives? This is one of the rare times where fanartists and fanfic writers would have handled this sort of topic more gracefully.

Haven't seen the episode yet, but I thought Jack and Ashi were going to end up a pair after the scene with the two deer nuzzling in the third episode. They don't have the time to flesh this stuff out, and what little foreshadowing they could do had basically already been done.
