There was a lot more stuff than I thought, mostly because I lucked out and found a paper describing some creepy stuff done by the Nazis involving Lochkarten. I'm adding this and everything else I found together, but since I'm also supposed to work most of the day, it's slow going. Don't expect anything until at least the next weekend.

I also just realised that I was thinking of the Battle of Heligoland Bight earlier, which is just an embarrassing mistake to make.  Although really you could probably squeeze an entertaining film out of that too.

I watched Under Siege this weekend, that's the best battleship-centric movie ever. One thing I was a bit confused about, they spent a lot of focus on the actual gun loading procedure, but it looked like they were putting separate charges behind the shells before they fired them, did/does ship ordinance separate the shell and the propellant?

One book mentioned some starved soldiers reaching a supply depot in East Prussia who gorged themselves on flour and promptly died. Not sure if it was from the flour expanding their stomach or simply refeeding syndrome.

ACM is (broadly speaking) mainly about energy management, trading off potential vs. kinetic energy to stay in a part of your flight envelope where you can control the fight. That's the biggest thing that bothers me with the new-er CG-filled WWII movies. They can sure make photorealistic aircraft with computers now, but they often make them move more like TIE fighters than like WWII piston-engine aircraft. Red Tails was full of this, as highlighted in the clip below. In fairness that's basically an immelman compressed for movie purposes. The top gun intentional stall thing is just suicide in jets because you destroy your speed without gaining any energy back as altitude.
