Stupid drivers always breaking car, Gronk fix car...
While everyone is getting married, I'm getting divorced! Finally doing the paperwork too!

On the plus side, the local RadioShack franchise is closing its locations, so I picked up some small things...

I never understood the nerdrage behind hating on RadioShack for going from walls of bagged components to a cabinet, there really wasn't much lost in terms of available parts, and you could be more or less sure what every store had. I actually think the selection got a bit better, in most ways. I also picked up just about every Arduino shield and sensor kit they had left, 70-90% off made the pricing reasonable!

One of today's projects was to replace the keel hanger bolts on my 44 year-old sailboat. Three were in good shape, one was a rough pentagon of rust. I wasn't worried, I had my lucky set of bolt extracting sockets, an impact driver and a heavy hammer.

Once again the universe punishes me for my hubris.

I am hesitant to post this, as I can see it can be looked at multiple ways. But yesterday in Nashville on a 4 lane road (5 if you count turning lane) wife and I approach a funeral procession on opposite side (oncoming). Police and highway patrol were not involved but beat to hell 20 year old Caprices with purple flashing lights. We slowed to under 5 miles an hour and I saw 5-10 cars slowly get in right lane and proceed at sub 5 mph. Now it is a custom in TN amd one I respect to stop for funerals. But we were in (or I was in) a rush and so I in the left lane approach at sub 5 mph and when I get to the front where this "patrol car" is I start sliding to the right and this jackass tatted head to toe rent a cop wannabe jumps in front of my car and won't let me pass on oncomi side! I motion for him to get the gently caress out of the way and he flags the other two cars and they come and box me in! Sirens wailing purple lights flashing. He is yelling get out of the car and please remember these are 20!year old shitbixes with their transport company logos crudely painted on the side. Without saying anything else about what I think or feel what do y'all think about this situation? I am open to criticism if you think I was in the wrong.

Is it legal to have flashing lights and sirens on a private vehicle on public roads in TN? I know in a lot of places it's not.

I dunno, dude. I live in Canada so I don't know what the customs are for dealing with idiots like that down there but all I can say is file a police report and hope the local southern sheriff or whatever doesn't decide to make an example out of you for somehow slandering the good God-fearing name of the deceased in that procession and his/her family.

In Indiana that would be considered an illegal detainment and it's a felony here. I was illegally detained by an off duty FAT security guard a few months ago and it cost that chubby bitch his job.

No they were purple light bars legal if not blue or red as far as I know. This was a company that apparently exists for purposes such as funerals but being from Nashville first time I have ever seen these poo poo boxes. I do feel like I was illegally detained. I did not get out of car. They took off like 2 minutes later.

You certainly don't have to comply with these idiot rent a cops, and I would absolutely report their actions. I'd have done it immediately so it would surely bite them in the rear end.

That being said, stopping for funerals is all but (and sometimes is) law in The South. I'm usually pretty anti "the way things are" but it's one fight I leave be. I guess it's a tradition I'm just used to, or maybe I kinda like it that way.

Why I was hesitant to post, and I am a respectful person. But this was a 4/5 lane road (technically it's a highway but considered a road by locals). Again 5-10 cars went to right lane and slipped by respectfully at 5 mph. And I looked it up there is no law preventing me from blowing past at speed limit (which is 50) but I would never do that.

In late 2004 or early 2005, I got brought in by an IT contractor that was subcontracted by a moving company... to pack up all the computers at every desk, label everything, and hook everything back up. At Tandy/Radio Shack's old and new HQ in Ft Worth.

My god... their new campus was ridiculous. You needed a goddamn map to get through the place, and getting lost was really easy. Their old HQ was pretty easy to navigate - 2 office towers connected by a mall (?!?). The new campus is 4 buildings and around 900,000 sq ft. They had over 2300 people working there at the time... they wound up selling the campus to a real estate company shortly after moving in, who eventually sold it to Tarrant County College - and RS currently occupies a tiny portion of the campus. They were half a million behind on rent when this article was written 2 years ago, and a more recent article claims they may be moving out completely.

I remember walking into the place and wondering how the hell they pulled off financing it back then; it was pretty well known that they weren't doing great even then.

I will say the CEO suite in the old HQ was pretty sweet... even had its own private elevator, bathroom (with shower), etc, and was all dark wood with brass or gold plated fixtures. Only got to step foot into the CEO suite for a few minutes though, and it was just so a few of us could gawk at it. Also got to see what was left of the mall (which had been shut down for a couple of years, though Radio Shack had a concept store in there - they had one or two concept stores in the new campus, too). Didn't get to see their private subway, it'd also been shut down for a few years by then.

Nah I'd have done the same man. You didn't do anything wrong. My usual response is to follow whatever traffic is doing, slow or stop. Sounds like these guys need to be dealt with.

Funerals here usually have a police escort though. I've never seen private (whatever you call them) transport "cops" doing anything but oversize load escort.

When I worked security in downtown Dallas at AT&T headquarters, I once had a shift where I had to walk around every floor of this skyscraper one by one. It was an overnight shift so the building was entirely empty except for the occasional cleaning person. It was creepy as hell cause it was so quiet. I got to go to check out the C-Level floor and go into all of the offices of the CEO and stuff. The entire floor with all the higher ups was like a totally different building. Marble floors, wood and brash poo poo everywhere. Every office having an assistant's desk outside. Pretty neat.

You mean the tram in from the parking lot on the river to the west? I rode in on that several times to go ice skating, or just wander around downtown Ft. Worth without paying for parking. It worked. It was a lot like the old version of the DFW Airport tram. Slow, and basically a guided electric bus.
I always wondered how Tandy could afford that campus - I guess the answer was they couldn't, and it pretty much typified how Tandy Corp was run. I used to work for Computer City, and while they weren't the worst employer, I hear that they weren't the best at employee treatment. I didn't work there long enough to find out, really.

G'day.
I'm feeling a whole lot better now since I got rid of my rotary poo poo. Annoys me that I had almost rust free cars and 50k in the bank so could have spent 15k and had nice cars and made 50k easy. Instead I let them rot and spent the 50k on buying a house and starting a business, both of which ended up badly.

Anyway, now I've got money in the bank for the first time in 5 years, a falcon ute to fix and re-licence and some money to blow on that and my next car (unsure if I will keep the ute. Will probably only keep it for moving house and if I need to store stuff in it or sleep in the tray). It's loving nice to have a plan that's not overwhelming and have the cash to back it up for the first time in 7 years. Such a relief.

Just took a small load of stuff over to the in-laws, I bought a used Wii U on ebay (because there aren't any games for the switch yet), and I'm making strides on getting this CB400 running so I can ship out to a fellow goon on the opposite side of the country.

I'm also looking to get a trailer so I don't have to pay someone to move me. I think taking a load of stuff up with us every time we visit the wife's parents is much more preferred than paying someone to gently caress up my walls and furniture again. Also I'd get a trailer out of it so that's good.
You guys have any recommendations on trailers? Brands?

Also, my buddy was robbed at gunpoint yesterday in Minneapolis, which prompted him to ask me which gun to get.
He's fully aware that carrying, likely wouldn't have prevented what happened, nor would he even have brought his gun in this case anyway since he was flying carry-on only. No-the-less it's a reminder that he wants a gun.
He wants a .380 for conceal. I recommended the Glock 42 and Ruger LCP. You all have any other suggestions?
I tried to get him to get a Kimber but I think he's on a budget of <$500

Also, I just noticed that Kimber doesn't have their Solo on the website anymore? WTF it was such a pretty pistol!
