I basically agree that Flash needs to get off the "evil speedster" kick for a season like they teased with Alchemy, but like I don't think the problem is REALLY that the characters have personal feelings and relationships.

Having feelings and relationships isn't a problem, but when people continually want things kept secret it gets a little tiresome. Although I do love the way Joe went from "I have to break up with Cecile rather than put her in danger" to "Yeah I just told her you're the Flash, Barry".

Barry was like "dude there's no point keeping it a secret anymore, 80% of the population knows I'm the Flash" then Joe was like "I'm still gonna!" then KF showed up and welp

Eh, Joe wasn't really wrestling with whether to trust her with the secret or anything. He was just coming to terms with the obvious that people in the Allen/West social circle tend to end up kidnapped or killed. Its a tough thing to bring up when you're starting a relationship. "I can't tell you why, but if this gets serious there's a good chance a super villain might kill you or take you to another timeline or planet."

One thing I will definitely say about this season vs. Zoom season is that having the villain be Evil Future Flash definitely raises the emotional stakes, as opposed to it just being this mysterious guy from another universe that we are supposed to be attached to but barely know. For better or worse, we've had 2.8 seasons to get to know Barry so we're definitely attached to him. Thawne's betrayal hurt. Jay's betrayal was eh. But Barry turning his back on them? That's a whole other ball game. It opens the door for some serious character exploration. Whether or not they walk through that door is up in the air, but the door is definitely open. It also explains in a rather straightforward way why Savitar doesn't just loving kill Barry, as opposed to Zoom who seemed to do random poo poo because he was evil and crazy.

I realize they can't actually do it any more than Oliver can just call Barry every time he's got a tough nut to crack over on Arrow but it's hard to know why Barry doesn't call in a favor with Kara to help deal with this whole Savitar situation. e: There you go, Bart Allen.
