Well I took the right time to decide on doing the imperial rank up missions, ended up 5% into Duke and enough money to buy 1 of each of the rank locked ships. Even partially fitted the cutter to be my imperial slave trader. Though I gotta admit I was shocked at how small the cockpit is in comparison to the anaconda's ridiculous amount of space (which I need to test in roomscale VR to see if I can look around the pillar).

I can't stop engineering lil' ships! As an exploration ship or errand runner, the Hauler packs a loving punch for the money. I'm getting like 45ly. No shields, engineered light and cool, lots of silent running all day erreyday when I'm poking around the bubble. With such a small fuel tank, it basically scoops instantly. Scooping speed is my big annoyance with the DBX; I think at this point I'd rather take my Hauler into the black. AspX for a deluxe exploration experience, obviously, but Hauler for doin' it fast, quick, dangerous and dirty. I also pimped out a Type-6 for passenger missions. Haven't flown one of those in forever. I engineered it light and cool like my Hauler, also with no shields (because I realized that playstyle in cheap ships is fun as heck, especially if you're good at avoiding interdictions). I'm getting like 36ly with three cabins, but I'd get like 44ly-ish if I swapped in cargo bays. Which ain't bad. These lil' long-jumpin' ships are great. I might need to build a speed-demon iCourier next, to complete the trifecta. On the downside, my bank account is pretty low after a recent Cutter refit, so I just sold my soul and took my first trip to Quince... Going core-ward, my understanding is extreme range isn't really needed anyway. Am I mistaken? I went to the NGC- Star Nursery in a Cobra with ~25ly range and it was okay.

No, you're always creating at least a little heat, and eventually it will have to go somewhere. The only options in space are to radiate it or cook yourself. But with good planning you could stay in silent running for... I dunno, a couple minutes maybe? That said, you'll typically cool back down within seconds of reopening your vents, so you'd just be a quick blip on the radar as you're doing that every so often.

So what kind of jump range can I expect out of a heavily engineered Python? I'm thinking about selling my pretty blinged out AspX for one. I can afford the Python and fittings without selling the AspX. Curious if the Python will make the AspX irrelevant.

Man, so I've been playing this game off and on for a year or so (30 hours so not much) and have only been doing transport missions as they are probably the easiest thing to do. I decided that I wanted to try some combat and figured my flying skills should be good enough by now. Instead of just getting destroyed I figured I would try out the training missions to get a feel for the combat. First one was easy, but then I tried the advance, for like 2 hours and kept on dying. Figured I must just be pretty terrible at combat but decided to check youtube to see how others might be beating that mission. Turns out a lot of people have the same problem, and that mission is super hard to complete. Great job Frontier but you might wanna tweak that one a bit.
