Worked out well enough in the end I think, for a first serious attempt at trying to gap fill, and then sculpt it so it doesn't look like gap fill. Painted white, because I'm going with a yellow base.

I went pretty light by most standards: Mystic Circle Undying Lords Kyphrixis Townsfolk Sophie Mythos Expansion Graveyard Expansion The Undying Lords I got to supplement the undead in the Graveyard Expansion; my idea was that it would give me enough themed figures for three groups (early-modern humans, lovecraft horrors, undead) for a skirmish-style game if I want to use them that way. Townsfolk I got for fun, and I don't have any dragons so that's why Kyphrixis is in there. I added the Sophie because this was the first one I've seen them do that wasn't kind of embarrassing and I figured I'd encourage that

Unrelated to our poor life choices, someone on the Reaper forum is running an experiment. Using 91% isopropyl alcohol to leach the plasticizers, he was able to reduce the bendiness of some Bones minis. He's now doing trials to figure out if it's repeatable, if it hurts their durability, if it makes them harder to paint, etc. When he has more data, I'll let you guys know.

Interesting! If it works out, it might be nice to more permanently fix some of them in position. The boiling/ice water thing works, but they still tend to want to bend back out of whack, at least on the thicker pieces.

I will soon though. I don't even remember why I ordered all the stuff I did. I remember being really excited for the Sledgehammer, but I don't play 40k anymore so I don't know what I'll do with it now. Also the bunch of cool undead minis (especially the Undying Lords) inspired me to start an Undead Army for Kings of War. That army is pretty much finished while I'm still waiting for cool skellingtons. The lesson here is to pick stuff you think is cool, not stuff you think you have a use for. Hobby situations change in two years or so.

I think I might be done with Core sets if nothing else. D&D is fairly rare for me, and getting rarer for the circle of friends as well and I can only paint so much. Here you go. So far, the original poster has only done the one experiment. Seems to paint up well. Another person experimented with denatured alcohol instead of isopropyl alcohol, and it doesn't seem to have much effect.

I guess with the track record Reaper is pretty much sure to do a Bones IV. I wonder how much stuff they have left to convert over - I know there is a reasonable mix of conversions and new sculpts in the mix, but they must have ported a good deal of their range over.
