Hey, I love my NC! It's a little chubbier than the earlier cars (more to love!) but there's nothing wrong with it that moving to stiffer shocks/springs/sways doesn't fix. Granted, gutting it and putting a cage in probably didn't hurt, nor did the DOT-Rs...

My only issue with the NC is the way the hood line looks, wish they just would have connected it to the headlights like every other Miata.

Fat Cat is definitely above Vmaxx and might be below Fox (never ridden in a car with Fox). KYB is below stock, but higher than china or blown out stock.

I'd like to sell my NA for a NC2 PRHT but I waited too long in the year - now's a great time to sell the NA, a lovely time to buy a NC. The last one I was interested in was a 2 day fly and drive with 60kish miles for 10,5. The cheapest I can find now is a 3-4 day fly and drive with 40k miles for 13,8. I still have this fear that I'd miss the NA, but if the NC didn't work out I could always wait for a used ND RF.

It's production date was before 9/16 so I guess this is a good excuse to drive it hard and break the tranny while it's under warranty, right?

You don't drive it hard every day? Every trip with my 10AE is hard. But I live close to some very nice (windy) roads

The only car that stood out was a NC. It looks weird... Also: I like how at least around here MX-5 drivers greet each other. Its a nice acknowledgment of "Hey you also have a cool car. Good for you!"

I bet it's old men who want a roadster like their old MG but don't have the money or health to buy and maintain the classics. (My dad falls into this group but instead he bought a beach condo and is going to live vicariously through my miata) E: the commute to work this morning was simultaneously ridiculously fun and nerve wracking! HOLY gently caress it's annoying to do the oil filter on a RHD 10AE (1.8 '99). But, after more time I'd like to admit, I got the drat thing replaced. After spilling probably 2 deciliters of oil over the subframe after losing the old filter down onto it. Now I understand why the right side of the subframe has no rust, while the left side has a fair bit, heh. Also found my water leak. Something is not as it should be. The hose clamp is, well, hosed Coolant hose from the thermostat housing to the water pump. And before anyone comments on rust. Yes, there's rust, a lot more than you think looking at that picture, too. Ugh. Not sure how much is left of that swaybar. Lots of work to do... It was even worse in the NA because I just HAD to do the headlight blink and that just doesn't work unless I'm ready ahead of time.

I'm going to be doing the timing belt on my 99 soon, and as part of that I want to do the crankshaft seal. Does anyone have a tool (either official or homemade) that I could borrow to take care of removing the bolt? I obviously don't mind paying for shipping both ways or driving out to wherever in the central FL-ish area vvv: Wow, I'm used to even aftermarket tools being a hell of a lot more expensive, and https://www.flyinmiata.com/review/product/list/id/6314/category/169/ is an awesome idea as well e2: Timing/seal tool kit ordered, as well as some softtop latch pegs since they were cheap and mine are a little worn. 100bux is a bit more than I intended to spend, but I certainly plan to keep this car running for more than just a couple timing belt changes Sentient Data fucked around with this message at 02:49 on May 23, 2017 |

I just used two wrenches on the camshafts that were clamped together with vise grips. It was cheaper and quicker than ordering the FM tool for my spec miata. I just have a few more things to do before my race this weekend. One of those is replacing the shift turret boot. Anyone have any tips on getting it on the shifter?

I have incurred a battle scar from an encounter with wildlife. When I took my Miata out of winter storage a few weeks ago, on the way home I hit a hare (local rabbit-like creatures with no sense of traffic). I saw it running over a field up to the road. I slowed down figured it would make it across, but I ran right over it (it must have lost some time coming up the side of the road, or I just misjudged it). Couldn't brake too hard due to a car behind me, I hit it at maybe 40km/h. I didn't see any obvious damage to the car at the time and didn't think too much of it, but the other day this fell off (never noticed it when it happened, I just saw it in the driveway later): It's a 25cm chunk of the plastic thing between the bumper and the undertray from the passenger side, and there is some damage to the radiator as well: Just seems like a small dent and a bunch of bent fins, no leaks. I'll try to put something in place of the broken plastic, to protect the radiator a bit. Also without it the lower part of the bumper is kind of floppy, it's fine now but I guess more of that stuff can crack if I don't stabilize it.
