Half the party's confidants have big importance on their relationship with a friend. Makoto's is just not super interesting although there are some good scenes in it that I like a bunch.

Okay, I just meant that there was way more of a focus on her friend than there was in other confidants (although I actually never got super far in any of the other party member ones so it might be different there). Don't need to be so rude.

Learning to connect with other people.

Like Makoto's entire thing is an almost crippling social isolation from people her age because she spent so much time trying to be perfect for his sister/people in authority. It even carries over to the thieves where she doesn't really interact with most of them as equals, but as an older sister/mentor figure. Her forming an actual, no-bullshit friendship with someone in her grade is pretty important and helps reinforce the whole 'make your own path' part of her character and motivation.

It's kind of redundant to say people's stories focus around other people seeing that basically everyone in the story is some sort of social outcast that uses the SLs to come to terms with their ostracization. So by nature they are going to be focusing on adapting with other people.

Learning how to maintain a relationship even when bad or dumb things happen is an important part of having a friend though.

Her arc isn't about making a friend, its about what friendship is.

Makoto's helped a bit by having a really big role in the main story. Her social link is fairly weak though. I liked it more than some people did but it's not one of the better party social links.

Chie doesn't really get the development or main story spotlight that Makoto does so I think her popularity will hold up a bit better.

I didn't say the arc was over but that part was, it then transitions into a part that is completely contradictory to the message of the rest of the game.

It's okay understanding fiction is sometimes quite hard.

Also calling it an arc is rather generous, it's more a really long check mark.

Makoto's S.Link should have been about her channeling her previously-repressed anger in rebellion against the world. Instead we learn she wants to not only be a cop but the top cop. She's cool but with hindsight and the whole story I probably would have dated someone else

The stat gates hit you much earlier in P5 and it's a boring way to prevent players from a max SL run right off the bat. You can still date Makoto if you spam Charm activities but it's cutting it close to the end.

I grinded Charm activities early just for Makoto, and I think that inefficiency prevented me from completing all Confidants. Another negative.

P5 really wants you to spend your time with everyone evenly and not focus all your time on just a few confidants before moving to others. Luckily that's what I was doing but even then you meet some block's ridiculously early and it sucks.

I had like 2 Proficiency when the 5 Proficiency gate showed up in the late game, and still managed to max out that character. It goes up pretty fast if you try to focus on it.

This is also annoying because having too many simultaneous confidants in progress means having to juggle personas a lot until you get all 12 slots unlocked, which costs money and is a hassle the first time through.
