No, Mementos's biggest problem is that the dungeon is really dull compared to everything else, and all the enemies are way underlevelled by the time you go there.

Also, it reminded me of the bad parts of P3/4 compared to how interesting the palace were and I already spent too much time in a real subway :smith:

In the cases where there's a choice to ask for their tormentor's name either subtly or overtly, I always picked the overt option. I played Joker as the kind of guy who can't stand to see some rear end in a top hat getting away with hurting others, and I felt it was appropriate in those circumstances to let the mask slip a little.

They all give you in-battle benefits and help you steal hearts more easily as long as you help them out

I do like how it gets progressively more twisted, but yeah, it's not really interesting or fun to crawl. It's also not actively painful or anything, which it easily could have been.

You also don't really have to spend a lot of time in it. It's not your main source of levels, and it's not super long to go through a layer.

To be clear, I don't spend any more time in Mementos than it takes to find the target or the stairs leading down. But even the duller parts of 3&4's dungeons didn't have me reaching for the mute button.

"You don't expect me to believe a high school student learned how to shoot that well without assistance, do you?"
"No, no, I owe it all to the small child in the arcade who mentored me."
"...Right. Moving on, then..."
"Hey, did you know if you blow on your younger sister's knee hollows, she starts giggling uncontrollably?"
"MOVING. ON."

Even if my heart belongs to another, I accept Makoto as the 'canon' love interest because it's easily the funniest option.

It's great fodder for jokes, but maybe they should have limited that to semi-sensible deductions. Say, most party members + Moon, Sun, Hierophant, Hanged Man, Devil, Temperance and Death. There's no good reason why Star, Fortune or Tower should be on the radar at all. Neither should Fool, Magician or Strength, but I don't remember if she had a speech for them or not. Kind of a long game, you know? :v:

So, does securing an infiltration route block off your party confidants until you beat the palace?

Rangpur
Dec 31, 2008

As I understand it, the Palace existing is what blocks some--but not all--chances to hang out with party Confidants. Once you're on the last 7 days though, they'll all act like you're nuts for wanting to double date instead of stealing the target's heart. I don't think securing the infiltration route has anything to do with it, but if you're that far you might as well finish it as soon as you're able.

Yeah, once you secure a treasure route, no one from your party will want to hang out with you till you send the calling card.

Also, if only 7 days are left, no one from your party will hang out with you.

Judgment's kind of a tricky one, because it tracks your ranking but you don't get any benefit from it until you catch up with the timeline. I found this out when I fused Anubis without paying attention the bonus XP and got extremely annoyed as a result.

So... I see Palace 5 is where they started to bust out the really infuriating resistance combinations. I got everyone decked out in the best available gear specifically because I'd heard this Palace was brutal, but if anything it was undersold. I have no idea how to survive the little robots that spam Triple Down if I hadn't fused Ahrahabaki and Kaiwan. Haru's Tetrakarn can help, but even so it is a brutal slog and a major step up in difficulty from Palace 4. At first I was also annoyed at the way it seemed to spoil the pattern up to this point. You steal from a Castle, a Museum, a Bank, a Tomb, later on a Casino... All classic heist targets. And then you're just randomly in a space station. But then I realized you are literally the rebels attempting to rescue a princess from the death star. Well played, game. That was clever.

It'd be cool if instead of just going "lol no room" when you ambush a low level enemy for an instant kill it would let you swap the new persona into your party if it's one you haven't already got in the compendium.

Kinda annoying to have to either have to fight everything and hope you aren't too strong to not murder it immediately by accident, or spend a bunch of time fusing things away to make room in your list.

Hell just let me pay to execute a persona for no reason other than to remove it from my active list if there's no point in a fusion for it. Stop making my life harder with bullshit, game.
