Contempt of Congress is really loving weird and can lead to something or absolutely nothing depending on the situation, so I'm deferring to y'all on that.

Flynn is so loving baffling, and it's infuriating that someone this openly contemptuous of the country has managed to stay politically relevant for so long.

The Wikipedia article on contempt of Congress is pretty interesting in regard to consequences, one of which includes the sergeant at arms dragging him before the committee.

But if you check out the table near the bottom of the article you'll see that absolutely loving nothing has happened to anyone held in contempt for the last 30 years. Then again, the stakes are a bit different this time around.

According to some older articles regarding Hilary's IT guy that was found to be in Contempt of Congress, people found in that status can be fined ($100-$1000) or imprisoned (1-12 months). But it's this whole process. The relevant committee has to adopt a resolution and send it to the House floor. The whole House has to approve it (by simple majority) to officially find a person in Contempt of Congress. Then Congress has two choices: 1) The House may instruct its sergeant-at-arms to arrest the individual and bring them before the House presiding officer (usually the Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan). The individual could be held in the Capitol jail, but this practice has not been used for more than 80-years. 2), The Speaker to refer the matter to U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia for criminal contempt proceedings. The law then requires the U.S. Attorney to empanel a grand jury to consider indictments for criminal contempt.

It seems to be the rule that everyone just gives up the documents or testifies before it gets to that point, in the last four years four people have been held in contempt. Eric Holder was almost impeached and was basically forced to resign as Attorney General. Lois Lerner was not indicted because the DOJ decided the basis for her contempt, not testifying, was dumb because republicans said that she had given up her 5th freedom when that was not the case. Backpage.com is still doing legal appeals and stuff. Bryan Pagliano is still in the process of getting charges and stuff done to him. The last person to tell congress to gently caress off and not give up what congress wanted was Rita Levelle in '83 and she got 6 months in prison, 5 probation, and 10,000$
