Once third parties get access to fiber, telus is going to sell it to them at the same price as DSL, and they offer their own 300/300 package at the same price as the others can offer 150/150.

:colbert:

Telus would probably like to do that, but they don't set the tariff rate, CRTC does. The CRTC rulings for the past couple years have generally not been in favor of the oligopoly, so I actually expect the 3rd parties to offer a better deal. In all reality, I'd even pay them :10bux: more a month just to not give it to Telus.

e: I just got off a chat with Telus and was able to negotiate unlimited usage with my 150/150... not that I probably will use it because it's 1TB as it is, but still.

I know it's not blazing fast compared to some services out there, but compared to the 25/5 I've been on for the last 8-9 years it's a nice bump.
I had the builder put conduit in my new house for $225. Pretty stoked to run ethernet throughout. Main patch panel is gonna be in the basement utility room, 24 port gig switch in the attic will be trunked to it's mate in the basement by fiber. Everything on the first floor is gonna be cake to run since the basement is unfinished the top floor will be only moderately less hard since it'll all be coming down from the ceiling.

Also, moving sucks. But beer is good.

Nice. I wish my house were hard-wired with ethernet. I should do it (the upstairs is a mess with a bunch of old computers) but I really don't want to be going through walls and poo poo.

If it's just a room, use powerline adapters. I ran one to my computer upstairs and it was as fast as if it was plugged right into the router.

For just internet, yeah, powerline adapters can be pretty decent.

If you plan to actually move stuff between PCs, they're not any better than wireless (may be worse in some cases). Wired gigabit is pretty great for moving all that porn between computers, 802.11ac is okay if you're not fighting 500 other access points.

Halfway through, I went to fix us both a coke float.
By the time I got back, he'd gone insane.
Plus, he'd left the gate open and there was evil everywhere.

Someone I used to go around Europe with doing track days and what not was taking part in the Rev Run https://www.therevrun.com/ which in short is a 3 day road rally thing. This is what he drives

While driving in Germany he was pulled over by the Police who were waiting for the cars taking part to come by and started ticketing most of them for anything they could but for some of the more crazy ones, this car included, they issued orders for the car to be removed from the road as it is unsafe due to the ride height and canards due to pedestrian safety. So he is in the middle of Germany in a car the Police have said if they catch it on the road again they will confiscate and destroy. I guess they were not impressed with the meth injection and huge flames out the exhaust.

I had completely forgotten these existed. Sounds like a much better option than crawling around the attic, drilling holes in the wall/ceiling and running ethernet.

In theory this is the solution for future movies: https://www.amazon.com/Alpine-Hearing-Protection-MusicSafe-Musicians/dp/B0032BYCWG Cuts volume without losing fidelity. I plan on trying it next time I go, the good screens here are super loud too.

In episode 14 of Powershift rebuilds his washing machine. Does anybody know how to test a brushless motor? i think the motor is gone, under a heavy load it just tukka tukka tukka instead of whiririririririr. It's 9.6 ohms across all combinations of power pins.

The loving throw out bearing for the main drum is plastic on plastic so there's greasy shreds of plastic everywhere, i pulled everything apart and couldn't see any shorted windings or anything, i cleaned it all up and re-greased the loving plastic on plastic and bolted it all back together and it works better than it

They're both the same plastic, so it's not like the clutch fork, the cheap and easy bit to remove is sacrificial. if I've got 500 loads on the washer, 500 more and both the fork and throw out bearing are going to go. Nothing's varnished in a wet environment so anything steel is rusting. This is the same washer that had the drain pump bolted to the vibrating drum in a fragile plastic cage, and is known for the tub popping out of the struts and blowing the machine to pieces.

I'm starting to think Kim Jong Un is in the good Korea and we've been supporting the bad one this whole time.

I tend to find that if someone comes out with a variant of "we need to prevent people expressing hate speech", you know you're gonna hear some poo poo. I actually thought when the headline first cropped up that it was some kind of disingenuous spin on what they really said/intended, but noooope, it is that level of crazy bollocks.
