How clever of a bastard is Lynch? Naomi Watts has to take care of someone again who has memory loss issues. Brilliant.

We get Amazon video now? Nice. Maybe it's time to resub to Prime.

The TMNGo On Demand also gets Twin Peaks streaming, but the episodes are on a delayed release.

Saw new Twin Peaks after re-watching FWWM. Love it Love it Love it.

I feel totally capable of taking this new show on its own terms, but I can tell that there are stylistic (and maybe even thematic) overlaps with other Lynch features? Aside from Twin Peaks I've only ever seen Dune and Blue Velvet. What are some must-sees that might potentially enhance my enjoyment of the new series, based on what we've seen thus far? I'm kind of guessing Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.

So far to me it feels a lot like Inland Empire, but you should watch that after Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive.

Yup pretty much. I haven't watched all of Inland Empire because of the way it was shot (and its just a super hard watch for me). But Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive feel like required viewing alongside FWWM.

I've been meaning to watch Wild at Heart since I never seen it, is it any good?

Mulholland Drive is drat near a perfect movie imo, and Eraserhead is also extremely good. There are definitely bits of Lost Highway and even Inland Empire in this show, though the latter is probably his least accessible film and I would guess the one that is responsible for more negative reactions to Lynch's style than any other single movie.

Mulholland Drive is on netflix I think, and Eraserhead was for a bit but it's gone now.

phew, for a minute there i lost myself
I was really conflicted about the first couple of hours when first watching them and actually felt disappointed, but after hitting 3&4 and rewatching 1&2 I'm completely enamored of the revival. It's rich, fresh and provocative. Like a poster above said I really miss the constant soundtrack from Angelo Badalamenti but that's really my only complaint so far. Well, I also wish they would spend more time in Twin Peaks because there's enough in that one town for a compelling show but I think we'll be there a lot more of the actual town in the coming hours.

Some additional notes:

- Is Laura back in the real world? Her saying "Yet I live" and disappearing in a way sort of similar to Dale falling out of the lodge makes me wonder where she is going

- Sarah sitting in her living room, surrounded by cigarette butts and alcohol, watching lions eat a water buffalo was incredible

- I'm still not totally on board with the look of Evil Dale but I love that it's happening and that Kyle MacLachlan gets to do it. It seemed like he was going to have a lot of fun playing that role based on that last minute of the S2 finale and it's great getting to see him doing it. And I love the weird way his voice sounds and the repetition in the scene of him speaking with Gordon Cole in the prison.

- "HelllloooOOOOooooo" is never not funny

- Ep3: That was Ronette Pulakski's actress as the 2nd woman in the weird water/space apartment Dale was in telling him to leave before her mother came in. Interesting casting...

- The Wally Brando scene is amazing. I love how Forster just does not give a poo poo about what he's saying. "Your dharma......"

- Also Naomi Watts' character's name is "Janey-E"

I think what this means is that Laura is only alive in the Black Lodge now since she was murdered while wearing the ring in FWWM no? So she seems like she is just trapped there forever, but then transfers to some other plane of existence or some poo poo when she teleports out of the room/screams a lot.

WE LOVE SHOOTING GAMES!

Fun Shoe
So far, I am loving the new season. I'm glad that I decided to watch Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead beforehand to familiarize myself with Lynch's other work since I'd only seen TP & Blue Velvet before.

I didn't go in expecting that it would be old Twin Peaks simply due to the passage of time and the Showtime exec's comment about it being "purestrain, uncut Lynch," and I'm happy for that. I think I'd have been disappointed expecting a simple continuation.

I had to break up the episodes across two nights though since I don't think I could have processed all of it at once. The first two episodes felt like a nightmare comitted to film; taking something familiar and filtering it through visceral unease, confusion and terror. The near-absence of music helps to amplify it. I don't think I've ever seen a show or film as unsettling as this.

I'm happy that the Twin Peaks-set scenes still hold some of the charm of the old show, though. Hawk's (ep. 3 stuff) "It's not about the bunnies! ... IS it about the bunnies?" had me dying.

For anyone that read the book, do you think that the thing in the glass box was what (book spoilers) Nixon showed Dougie Milford & Jackie Gleason at the black site? Relevant passages below:

We were looking into a very dimly lit room that appeared to be empty. Then, in roughly the center of the room, I realized a shape, small and pale, appeared to be sitting or squatting, turned away from us, showing only a grayish-greenish-white spiny back. Then it disappeared entirely. Moments later it reappeared, as if a concealing shadow--or a magician's cape--had simply passed over it. But it hadn't moved and I still couldn't tell if it was inert or animated. Whatever it was then phased in and out of my view a second time. The General flipped a switch on the console and tapped twice on a microphone; the sound of which we could hear through a speaker as it was conveyed into the room.

I saw the shape react, stiffen. Then it turned to look our way through the window--it seemed to me likely that it was one-way glass, mirrored on the interior side--and for a brief moment the shape of its face was visible. The glimpse we got was extremely brief before it vanished again, and I wasn't entirely sure of what I saw, beyond a vivid impression of large oval black eyes, pinched to the point of nonexistent mouth and nose, and a smooth bulbous head. Then it was gone.

But what lingered longer than the persistence of the image was the visceral feeling that seemed to emanate from the figure; what clawed at my gut and the base of my skull was a sickly sour wave of such pure and uncanny malevolence that for a moment I thought I might lose consciousness. A paralyzing fear ripped through the mose primitive parts of my brain and I couldn't move, except to glance over at Jackie and I instantly recognized he was just as pole-axed as I was; pale and covered with sweat.
---
The creature in the box, I can't quite tell with its jittering if it has black eyes or if I'm seeing a mouth. Also wondering if the box monster is what BOBleganger is looking for, depicted on his ace of spades.

One thing I noticed is that in the Black Lodge, Coop has a pin or a badge or something on the lapel of his jacket. After he emerges and takes Dougie's place, it's gone.

I couldn't quite make out what was on the pin and I want to know where it went. Could just be a continuity error, to be fair.

If so, definitely a little depressing because the end of FWWM with her angel suggested that her spirit was going to get some sort of reprieve.
