Well hello there! Yeah that was my thing. I'm currently working on another one based on Dan Carlin podcasts. It's the story of the 2020 election, in which Trump declares himself to be the messiah and destroys America. It's a slow burn for the first few chapters but by chapter five there are going to be mandatory congressional orgies which break down into cannibalism along party lines. Not sure how it ends yet but I'm thinking nukes will be involved. Chapters 1and 3 are the only ones with rough drafts of Mussorgsky far. 2 and 4 have nearly final words music to come shortly. Chapter 1 Chapter 3 Mussorgsky was supposed to be "music so", but it's weird enough that I'm just going to leave it. Trig Discipline has a new favorite as of 13:28 on May 24, 2017 |

syscall girl posted:How much of the sound engineering do you do vs. writing the script? Not sure exactly what the distinction is, but basically I just start by taking thousands of samples based on how easy they are to clip out cleanly. Then once I've got a decent sample pool it's like assembling magnetic poetry, except with more trial and error based on the sound of his voice in the different clips. Once the story has sort of told me where it's going, I'll do a much more targeted round of sampling for the rough bits or links I just can't make. I've taken so many samples for Dan Carlin that I'm almost certainly going to do more than one project with him. There's just hundreds of hours of source material, and he talks about so much violent and weird stuff. syscall girl posted:Any illustrators in mind? Oh man I have no idea. I'd like to get some people working on it before long, though. I'm thinking I'm going to start putting this thing out in the public eye after maybe chapter five or six is done, because honestly I'm worried about the context changing so much that it's no longer as relevant or funny. I started this before Trump was even the nominee, and the fact that he's actually president now makes it come off considerably less farcically than originally intended.

Oh hey while I'm at it, if y'all have ideas for a title I'm all ears. I was originally thinking Death To America: The Musical, but I would like to be able to fly in and out of the USA without being strip searched soooooo you know. Right now the working title is just 2020, but that is bland af.

Oh yeah I remember that Kirk freakout, it's a classic. This stuff isn't something where you can just sit down and write something and expect it to work, it's seriously a whole other set of skills. I'm probably not going to farm out any of the audio stuff anyway; I have a pretty strong vision for how that's going to go and am anal enough about the compositing of the audio clips that I would almost certainly drive any hypothetical collaborator insane. I might ask some people if they want to try out writing alternative scores, though. Mainly I need to get artists to illustrate it for YouTube; ultimately I only got illustrators for three chapters of Strelka and I'd like to do better for this one.

Karate Bastard posted:Are you doing this through Markov fuckery or [other skill]? Manually built from thousands of short clips. It takes a while. The time consuming part is building the library, but I'm pretty far into that already. The part I'm currently doing, where I actually assemble and score the story, is relatively quick and most def the fun part. e: I should make a YouTube of the process because I always get this question and I'm never sure I even convey how it works properly.

Long Wang posted:If I had a pole that was 1 light year long and I pushed it, how long until the other end moved? fishmech posted:It would take a minimum of 1 year for your poke from this end to reach all the way to the other end, and it would then take you an additional year to be able to see that it had in fact moved. Long Wang posted:Well, that's assume that the type of material isn't an issue, ie. it won't absorb, won't change shape even though I guess that might not be possible for such a long piece of material. It kind of confuses me because it means the length of the item is no longer one light year. fishmech posted:Yeah if it's a material that somehow stays in one piece when it's 1 lightyear long, and doesn't attenuate the force at all, it'll take exactly one light year for your nudge on this end to reach the other end. Namarrgon posted:There are no 'objects'. Movement of an 'object' is just the movement of its constituent atoms. Moving the light-year-rod requires movement of all the constituent atoms. This is accomplished by atoms physically pushing others when pushed. In small objects (small as in not relevantly light-time sized) this also applies, but is not a realistic concern. For large objects such as the theoretical light-year rod, it does matter. Flipperwaldt posted:Is this building up to some username/post combo joke?
