The first two or three dungeons will take a few trips, and both Kanji's dungeon and its boss are massive jumps in difficulty. After clearing it the rest of the game is much easier, and once you get a few ranks in Hermit you'll be able to finish most of the rest of the dungeons in a day or two. Oh wait, there's one more really difficult dungeon/boss: the "Void"/8-bit dungeon thing. gently caress that boss. There's a pretty good reason for making him as hard as he is, at least. And I just remembered that the boss to the Heaven dungeon is also fairly hard... Okay but that should really be it! It's a harder game than P3 and does require some grinding at times but those three are probably the worst of it, and most of the dungeons after Kanji's are pretty easy, too

ok yeah, i *do* remember wiping pretty hard during void quest. that was a rough difficulty spike.

but i do love the aesthetic of that dungeon.

Legions of armed police on the streets that shoot to kill and mission objectives that require you to run back and forth across the map repeatedly. Why yes game, it's dead fun to have to head to my apartment to see a 30 second dialogue cutscene and then go back across the city for another one.

Plus that actually changes the character duo/team negotiations. Ginko would flirt with Tatsuya in theirs but if you just say "No I like Jun." she's p. respectful and drops the aggressive flirting. I mean, the protagonist/Yosuke relationship is incredibly homoromantic and homoerotic in places so that's cool, and apparently there was cut dialogue (that even got as far as English VA!) where it became explicitly romantic but they coward out at the last second and pull back.

They removed that for the boy route too, because of memory constraints.

They basically redid every social link and a ton of other stuff entirely for the girl route so I don't think you can really accuse them of cheaping out on that aspect.

I've been playing a little bit of Magic Duels, and it's pretty disappointing. There are a lot of little issues that are annoying but wouldn't really matter that much, and one huge problem.

  • Not having a way to trade or buy individual cards is irritating. I can see why they've done it that way, because it encourages you to pay real money to get more packs, but it's still annoying and increases the pay-to-win factor that Magic: the Gathering has built in anyway.
  • The deck editor is garbage.
  • The animations are annoyingly slow.
  • The way it constantly moves your cards around is confusing, and I'm pretty sure if you did that in a real-life tournament the judge would tell you to stop being a dickhead.
  • Half the time it zooms cards away from you when you're trying to read them, or doesn't give you the opportunity to look at them closely at all.
  • I keep getting confused by the way it displays power and toughness for your opponent's cards. Obviously power comes first, and it's showing it to you right-side-up, but I'm so used to my opponent's cards being upside-down that I keep mistaking 2/1 for 1/2 and so on.

But the biggest problem is that every match I've had goes one of two ways:
  1. My opponent is obviously new to the game and I know right from the beginning that I'm going to win (more than 60 cards in their deck is an obvious give-away).
  2. My opponent has a premium avatar, card protectors, foils, etc., and I know right from the beginning that I'm going to lose.

I haven't had one decent match against someone of my own skill level/investment. I reach about rank 4 or 5 and then just bounce up and down between people I can easily beat and people who can easily beat me.

Can we do PYF things dragging down tabletop games?

Because a girl I regularly play magic with puts her lands above her creatures, like a loving shield wall and it drives me constantly loopy.

And her mates has a storm deck that does nothing for the first three turns, then he instantly and unavoidably casts the same spell eleventy-billion times and blows you up. I can't even accuse it of not being fun to play against, because you don't play against it. You sit there doing your own thing and then you lose.

The land cards generally are laid out in a row closest to the player and the creature cards are the next row out. It sounds like this broad does it the other way around, which is a human rights violation.

The old Shandalar game had the lands stacked vertically at the side, and Magic Duels puts your lands closest to you and your creatures further out. Uncharted 4 is a step above Uncharted 3 on every level. The stealth got more fleshed out and incorporated the Far Cry enemy marking and the tall grass camouflage works favorably with the level design and platforming in the game to encourage you to move around without risk of detection.

But the stealth is still a pretty basic mechanic. Guards are operating with SOP so the second you trigger an alert everybody knows your position. You can't move bodies to avoid detection, and as far as I know there's no way to 'pull' enemies away from their set paths to create openings in patrols. Not that big a deal; this is an action game and the stealth is more of an option that turns combat encounters into puzzles and you can forego subtlety to just kill some dudes.

But there are some moments where I'm in a tight area and I just triggered a guard's caution state so I try to break line of sight by jumping out the window I came in, only the game bugs out and now I'm clinging onto the adjacent wall like the world's worst ninja while the entire army is running towards my position.

Also, I wish my buddies' stealth takedowns would proc more often, or I could at least issue basic commands to either cause distractions or set up buddy attacks. It would really add some more depth to the combat besides running around pieces of cover and hoping the enemies forgot my position.
