That reminds me, during a pubgame yesterday I was experimenting with Part 7 Jason and I was finding that I really had to scare/wound counselors before I could finish them. At the beginning of the game they would frequently break out of my blinkgrabs. Am I doing kills right in thinking it's just press/mash the number? Is there something in Part 7 Jason's weakness that I'm missing that makes it harder for him to body people early? I really enjoy playing Part 7 for the challenge and will be switching up my tactics now but it does really seem like 3 can blinkgrabkill far easier and since it's the default might be why people are bitching?

If you want to get bonus points for kill verstility you'll try to get different kill animations for each counselor. Otherwise yea, just hit whatever numbers are red in the lower right. Unlike DbD where you want to torture the survives, as Jason you lust for death. EDIT: love data base connection failure, with the camera constantly switching between Mr. Voorhees face and dick. All i want to do is play until I unlock Fat Boy Counselor. Snatch Duster fucked around with this message at 17:53 on May 26, 2017 |

So far my best run as Tommy Jarvis involved bookin' it to the pile of teenage corpses with car parts, swapping out the shotgun for gas and keys, and using his mad stats to pit-crew the car into working condition as another counselor did all the Jason-shooting/distracting. Screaming at the other player to get in the loving car as Jason drunkenly rises from the floor, followed by frantic swerving to avoid teleporting shenanigans, made for a really cool, movie-esque moment. There was also another guy yelling at us to stop and pick him up but when a masked killer is literally hacking away at your passenger-side door you suddenly have difficulty hearing the pleading screams of your teammates. EDIT: As for blink-grabs, I've been having a lot of success with using your "rear-view" key to see when Jason is prepping his move (HINT: It's when he stops chasing you, dummy), then using all that stamina bar I've been saving to juke-and-jive his stupid ghost. Yeah, teleporting/insta grab might need some tweaking. Like maybe Jason has a half second cooldown where he can't grab when he lands. I've played as Jason a total of twice, both times as Part 3, and by half-way into my first run of him last night I had more-or-less mastered the teleport grab, and this morning I never missed. Granted, that match was against pubbies....but still. That's the only tweak I would make right now.

I mean, the game's not about fighting the supernatural murder machine. It's about trying to not get murdered by the human wood chipper. If he can't mulch you easily, then the game loses a lot in general.

Tommy needs some goodies for his inventory slots when you spawn with him; by the time he makes his way to the graveyard most of the cabins will have been ransacked. I'd love to see something unique, like (very-slow-to-load) extra shells for the hunting shotgun or a Tommy-only defense item, but I'd be happy with just a pocketknife and a first-aid spray. Also I really enjoy Jason's hunting mechanics of "scaring -> wounding -> killing," not so much the "teleport -> grab -> squeeze neck" that gets used a bit too often. A good tweak I saw from someone else suggested that instead of disabling his grab after blinking, instead just make Jason's grabs very weak for a few seconds after blinking; this prevents bullshit deaths, but allows the Jason player an opportunity to pump a good amount of panic into his target, making followup moves easier.

The best defense against the teleport grab is as soon as you hear/see the tape effects, dive your rear end through a window. Also the shotgun needs to feel like it does literally anything more than any other garbage weapon in the game. I'd actually rather have the flare gun than the shotgun right now.

This is true, also if you aren't near a window, you can fairly reliably just go serpentine or make a few quick turns. It's easy to over-shoot your target in shift mode.

So last night I managed what was probably one of the first ever 'legit' jason kills (i.e. Not one where he stands there and intentionally let's you do it.) Got murdered like... Ten seconds into the round by jason. He jumped to my cabin, one of the lovely ones with just one side window and one front window. Trapped one window, broke down the door and speared me through the face when I tried to run. Pondered quitting for the night, but eh. gently caress it. Spectate half the map until suddenly, Tommy Jarvis time! I book it across the map, get scared by finding my own corpse and find a tank of gas. Car is otherwise ready to go so I fill the tank, hop in and we start driving. On the way we stop to save another girl, and jason takes the opportunity to wreck the car. Driver gets grabbed, and I start macheteing Jason in the back. We are hosed in my mind, but maybe I can hero Jarvis long enough for someone to hop in the car and escape. His mask pops off (part 6 is an ugly mofo) and I grab it. Cool, I've wounded him, maybe that can... No loving way. The girl we picked up is wearing the sweater. She does not know how to kill jason. I just barely break out of a grab kill and keep swinging while literally shouting over voice chat for her to loving press q. Eventually she does, I murder jason, three of us survive. Jason is pissed over voice chat.

Highlights thus far: Shooting a flare gun at Jason from a good 50 feet away as he pulled a throwing knife off the corner of a cabin, somehow managing to tag him in the face. Drowning a counselor as she tried swimming for the boat escape route, then heading back to the dock where two others were standing as one said "I see something in the water!" Then emerging onto the shore and fast walking after them as they scrambled. That second one was really fun. I'm less than thrilled about the $40 price tag, but I wanted to get in some time in the game before everyone gets really familiar with it.

People whining about $40 are the worst. Like, games costs $50 in the late 80s/early 90s and that was 1990 money! That's what is going to eventually kill indie gaming. This idea that if you're an indie studio, you are somehow obligated to price your games below 30 bucks. My lawn has had enough of these loving kids.

Press Q to stun Jason (1 time only, then the sweater goes poof), if you hit him without his mask in this state (has to be a female counselor that stuns him this way), he falls to his knees, then you need Tommy Jarvis with an axe or a machete to finish him off by pressing E. That's about it. Cyberdud fucked around with this message at 19:14 on May 26, 2017 |
