The thing that DOES matter even if no one goes to jail/gets impeached is the sheer destruction of the right. No one cares how many or how few people support Trump. If 3% of the conservative electorate thinks the Republican party is tainted by their collusion with Trump, it will have huge and lasting effects on elections all over and at every level.

It won't be destroyed. It'll just continue to shrink. At some point they'll try to win with the numbers they have and just find that they won't be able to win because the people that existed ten years ago have a big chunk of them dead and millennials are not voting republican enough to matter. I'm pretty sure that at some point the republicans are going to try and absorb the libertarian party in order to get an injection of fresh blood rather than trying to reform on their own. They'll learn nothing from the experience. Only repackage what they currently deliver now but pay lip-service to the party they devoured as well.

enraged_camel posted:Honestly, if Zuckerberg was the founder and CEO of a successful company in a high-tech field like green energy, computer hardware, nanotech, or robotics, I would at least pay attention to what he is saying. Don't forget that Zuckerberg is notoriously secretive and protective of his own privacy while also wanting everyone else's lives to be like an open (check)book for him to exploit. Crain posted:Is there literally anything legally that can be done if it fully comes out, proven with hard evidence, that the GOP has colluded at the highest levels with Russia to undermine America? John McCain will take drastic steps and announce that he is more deeply concerned than ever. But no, unless the GOP turns on Trump or enough of the GOP turns on Trump and the rest of the party to side with Democrats in ousting people, nothing can be done about this. Spiffster posted:Again unless heads start to roll this leads to nothing. I want to see some political heads roll for once and careers to end Same, only I want it to be literal head rolling. If a bunch of people are caught dead to rights on having worked with Russia to undermine US elections for their own gains then they need to pay the ultimate price for their actions. This won't happen because at this point it'd include almost the entire leadership of the GOP. The only way I'd vote for Zuckerberg is if he uses his billions to make this happen. Even then I'd be voting for almost anyone else in the primary. Lote posted:The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His father actually went to jail for illegal campaign contributions. In 2005. And Chris Christie being the one to prosecute his dad is why Kushner immediately had Christie pushed out of the transition team when Trump won. In the Maximum Vengeance Timeline, Mueller calls up Chris Christie and offers him a spot on the team that prosecutes Jared Kushner. There's not much I'd trust about Chris Christie, but getting revenge at all costs is definitely at the top of the list.

So is this all a movie and the big climax is when thje good guys find out WHY they are hiding all the info about the orders from Moscow? What's so important that they had to talk to the Kremlin about? Is the actual thing their hiding just the fact they got money from Putin?!? Were they communicating the Death Star plans via FSB astromech?

More importantly: do you think the loving Russian ambassador's phonecalls to Moscow is the only good poo poo these Deep State leviathans have access to? If you're leaking that stuff it almost certainly means the NSA is involved, which pretty much means they have access to every dirty deed these idiots have ever done. Normally a leak like that would be a shot across the bow, but Trump is too Trump to ever stop doing whatever he wants. So I predict this eventually ends with an itemized list of every rentboy Jeff Sessions has employed being posted to the US Parks Service website by Bizzaro Snowden 2.0.

TildeATH posted:The libertarian party? Most of the young conservatives I know don't identify with the republicans, but the libertarian party. Older republicans are dying out rapidly as the republican party members are often old as poo poo. The opioid epidemic is also hitting them hard. White voters are becoming an ever small part of the electorate. Enter the libertarian party. It's small, but gets significant amounts of votes. It appeals to history and wants more freedom. It also often espouses no holds barred gilded age lack of restrictions on capitalism. It'd be an awkward fit at first, but the republican party could and probably will at some point co-opt it if only to get fresh young blood into the party. Still white as hell to be sure, but young and white. Franks Happy Place posted:Do you think whoever is leaking this poo poo is going to stop until Trump is stopped? Whenever people say deep state I keep thinking it's just some sort of loose coalition of long time bureaucrats protecting their own little fiefdoms collectively. I do agree that things are going to keep rolling though. Trump says he's going to tackle the leakers but the myth of America is running headfirst into the empire of America. People get disillusioned and disillusioned people get angry and angry people act. Maybe they'll find some leakers but more will keep appearing as long as he violates our closely held myths about America. Also he'll have a tough time finding them because the odds are good that the people he tasks with finding them will either be incompetent or they hate him. mcmagic posted:It's not shrinking. They control every level of government with built in structural advantages. You misunderstand. The structural advantages are increasing, but their voter base is shrinking and has been for years. The reason they gerrymander, commit election fraud and do their best to discourage voters is because they're losing in terms of demographics. At some point they'll hit a critical unsustainable point. I thought that point was 2016, but Hillary and the empty SCOTUS seat got republicans out for a bigger showing at 103% expected value which was nuts, and they still lost the popular vote by 3%. They'll do their best to lock it down with structural advantages between now and 2018/2020 and beyond, but their base is dying out. Without new blood they are hosed in the long term. That also means appealing to non-whites because there are not enough white people to carry the vote for much longer. Still powerful to be sure, but not enough. When democrats stumble into power again, and the odds are good that they will, they will lock out the GOP for a good long while. If they somehow manage not to trip over their own dicks when the next census comes up they will banish the republicans from control of the house for the better part of a decade. The numbers just aren't there for the republicans long term. They're dying too fast and not replacing their membership, much less expanding it.
