IGN axed it. Most of the old mods are on a new site, but the sorting is poo poo and it's not like any real new content is being made for it anymore.

I remember someone was doing an LP of the Baldur's Gate games with mods in LP subforum (it might still be going actually), and one of the mods that was discussed was a NPC mod called Chloe, where the NPC basically comes in and Mary Sues their way into being the real protagonist of the game. I remember trying to see if was documented anywhere to see how bad it was, but I couldn't find anything.

Thankfully unlike the other mods we've discussed here it's more pathetic Mary Sueism than creepy poo poo. It's still up on Gibberlings Three, as a warning/example of everything wrong. Cythereal would know more.

Yeah, there's nothing particularly creepy about Chloe. She's just a lesbian demigoddess samurai whose deity mother shows up halfway through the game to give her weapons stronger than anything else in the game and seduces the PC's sister and if you haven't been nice enough to her will leave the party forever right before the final boss after the point of no return potentially with the PC's sister in tow and always gets the better of every Bioware NPC in conversation, who either adore her or hate her because she's a woman and/or a lesbian. Have I mentioned she's a lesbian? Because she will. A lot.

And yes, Chloe was written by a dude.

Best part of all the old NWN mods was the incredibly obvious, "I just got done reading some of Salvatore's drow books, now here's a section of my mod devoted to my super cool and unique version of the drow." Couldn't throw a brick without it landing in the Underdark and some dark elves enslaving you over it or something.

The mechanics/gameplay is one reason why I slogged through as much of it as I did - the premise of Dance With Rogues in terms of gameplay is that it's about playing, well, a rogue. You can't just punch/cast your way through the game, you have to be sneaky and clever and manipulative, and for the most part that aspect of the gameplay is done well.

Unfortunately, a whole lot of the author's idea of what constitutes that sort of thing involves a whole lot of nudity and sexually compromising situations. Your character is very much meant to use her sexuality as a tool and weapon.

It's some Harper guy who says he's going to get them resurrected. And the gear is honestly less useful than what you'll be toting around by Chapter 6.

a lot of it is in line and can fill some gaps in equipment that you might be feeling, but the larger reason why the loot's not that important is because it's so close to the end of the game. there's two dungeons with dudes and one dungeon with puzzles after the drizzt encounter and then you're off to Throne of Bhaal, which is explicitly designed and itemized for maximum epic level characters. virtually everything you can get in Shadows of Amn is obsolete in the first hour or two of gameplay.

Bioware games are a magnet for these types, and not by accident. They specifically modified the Aribeth model to make her "extra jiggly". If you open it up and look at the code, those are the exact words the programmers used, "extra jiggly."

She was female. I talked with her on a lot of occasions because she ended up being one of the primary authorities on the Aurora's tendency to leak memory since Sex and the Single Adventuress had so many maps and poo poo. Her husband thought the module was hilarious.

The dichotomy between what the designers intended and the actual games themselves has always been a bit amusing.

I've never bothered with the books, but from what I've heard of them a lot of the plots would be hopelessly derailed by basically any source of healing whatsoever; let alone what an adventurer with level appropriate gear could do.

i think you need good enough stats in agility, endurance and charisma to do it well, and certain minimum to even get the job. Anyone can be a "fluffer" too if you don't have the stats to actually perform, I think, and doing that results in being poisoned.

the primary issue with the books is that the main character is some lawful good single class no kit human fighter, which literally nobody in the history of ever has done in those games and would get reduced to ashes and vapor in the first couple of hours of gameplay without some very serious metagaming and manipulation. it's like the writer who got the job was explicitly told "make the MC as boring as humanly loving possible because there's no precedent on what he should or should not be from the games", when the entire arc of SoA and the opening act of ToB is all about how the Bhallspawn blood makes people crave murder like fuckin' Dexter and poo poo. despite that, there's almost no moral conflicts in what i read, just emotional conflicts with understandable but drab stuff such as wanting to look after Imoen and getting distressed when she's in danger or unhappy.

i didn't read long enough to see if there were any painfully abortive romance arcs in the SoA book but it would be entirely in keeping for him to go after Jaheira in the most traditional, vanilla way possible and have her succumb just because nothing better is on offer.
