If I remember correctly, that's the odds betting companies are giving Labour majority at the moment.

Well this is stupid, but I guess you take what you can. I was just wondering because here in Portugal the Socialist Party (anti austerity) lost against the Social Democrats (pro-austerity) but still managed to make a post-election "coalition" with the left bloc and the communists to be able to form a government and legislate in the assembly and it's been going pretty great:

(unemployment just came down to 9.8%, woo! something the last government was never going to do, since all they wanted was to take money away from the people)

Also, I think the biggest contributing factor to this success was the minimum wage being raised.

I thought it was a little bit harsh and I cried later.

Sorry to hear that man. Have you tried not crying and instead bottling all your emotions up and pretending everything is okay? I hear that is also endemic to the British species.

Depending on the size of the Tory majority this is a possibility for Labour. Not necessarily even entering into coalition, but simply signing agreements with other parties to support them in confidence motions.

It would. I didn't say 82%. A 25 year high, as your chart helpfully shows, would be the aim of between 54-67%. This appears possible, and is not an unreasonable goal for Labour to aim for now. It's what their PR is currently focussing on getting, but on its own it's not enough.

The guardian had a little sob piece about all the poor tories who aren't politically challenged who would think Theresa May is taking the absolute piss, and if the tories manage to keep an appreciable number of their own voters home it is where the youth turnout can begin to take seats.

Electoral Calculus currently has it at about 19% if you count Lab majority and various potential coalition choices all as wins. That's with polling data that only goes up to the 27th so potentially 20+%.

Hard to do anything more than guess at this point, really. So many unknowns particularly in terms of turnout that might render all polling wrong to the point of irrelevance.

Electoral Calculus currently puts the chances of the Tories winning Bristol West at 22% and is, to be blunt, loving wrong.

A friend of mine looking to return to the UK with his wife sent me this today:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/customer-enquiry-service-changes

quote:

From 1 June, all customer enquiries will be handled by a new commercial partner Sitel UK.

The new contract will see a number of changes for customers. These changes help the government reduce costs and ensure those who benefit directly from the UK immigration system make an appropriate contribution.

The main changes for customers applying from outside the UK are:

all phone numbers and opening hours will change
the number of languages offered is reducing to 8 including English
customers who contact UK Visas and Immigration by email will be charged £5.48
You will need to pay using a credit or debit card for contacting us by email. The charge includes the first email enquiry you send and any follow-up emails to and from the contact centre relating to the same enquiry.

A fiver and change for an email sent regarding an immigration enquiry. I guess they'd also frown on use of email forwarding services?

e: and also nickel and dime you over what does and doesn't constitute 'the same enquiry'
