I dunno, at this point the argument is kinda a creepy essentialist view which rejects the idea that working class white people can be non-racist. Like pragmatically the majority are at present, but this poo poo is just naked class hatred and as much a rejection of the working-class movement of the past as the poo poo spewed by Republicans.

i kinda feel like most of the suburban middle class could die and the world would be better, but then i remember my friend who moved to texas to marry and having to patiently explain to his high-school aged kids that even if all of isis teleported inside the border of a small texas town they would be outnumbered and outgunned by the immediate residents back when local news there was flogging "isis is going to ally with cartels and sneak across the border"

like local news there is really poo poo, these kids are mostly alright and grew up in a left-wing household

I was at a family reunion this weekend and my non-voting and Trump voting relatives both wish they could have voted for Sanders, so yes you can win rural whites with UHC, a higher minimum wage, and free college for their children (so they're not doomed to the mines). Apparently they thought they were getting this with Trump, and felt Clinton talked down to them. The non-voting one said she wouldn't vote for Clinton after she said "she was going to close the mines." They like the idea of closing the mines IF there's work lined up for the miners.
Granted, if Sanders had run, his idea of re-training miners would have probably been spun as shutting down the mines too, since they get their news from tv and the local grapevine (they don't do internet). Also, these were Democrats until 2008 because they couldn't handle the idea of a black guy being in charge. This is common in the area.

my general impression is that there was some degree of interplay between racism and feeling betrayed by obama letting off the bankers with huge bonuses instead of actual punishment in the financial crisis, plus the ACA being a lukewarm mess

normally i'd say "what came first, the chicken or the egg," but what came first was of course right-wing spin; but the dems still don't understand that they make spinning their poo poo easy as hell and they certainly didn't in 2008

Why in the gently caress would they think this when that is literally the antithesis of what the republican party has been about for literally their entire lives.

more often than not working class white people are racist, but no they are not all racist

on the other hand working class white people that consistently vote republican are racist

these two things are not contradictory and pointing out reality is not class hatred nor is it rejecting the working class movements

Because Trump promised to do something better than Obamacare, which they took to mean UHC and they have no idea how the government works. They also think judges shouldn't be allowed to overrule the president. Education is really lovely in Appalachia, I've posted about it before.

Trump literally insulted his voters. Sure Hillary had that thinly veiled contempt for the proles or whatever but its just another case of not paying attention to Trump's words. We had TheSuarus, rip in piss, insist Trump was for legal weed while the dude had said literally nothing on the subject.
