I went to the National Restaurant Association (I HATE having to type the whole thing out, every time) big convention last week, and I had an interesting conversation with a vendor that makes kiosks and menu boards.

He said that in-store self-service kiosks were super hot 2-3 years ago, but that they have largely been a failure; usage rates are far below projections. Why? Well, you can group customers into two basic groups: those who want human interaction, and those who don't. So why haven't the latter been using the kiosks? Because they would much rather order before they get to the store, using a store-specific app. Therefore the mad rush to get custom ordering apps out, as kiosks languish.

The only ordering app that I regularly use is the Starbucks app, they did a great job with that.

Come back to the GWS chat thread, Squashy. Or the Industry thread. This would make a good post in either.

This is the first cartoon Gorrell has published since April 11.

And just for yucks, here is the one lone post on Gorrell's blog, in its entirety:

quote:

It has been a very hectic twenty years. After many distractions – some good, some bad, many of my own making – times have calmed and I’ve decided to refocus and more fully concentrate on my editorial cartooning and other creative efforts.

This new website design is one component of that. You’ll notice that there is no substantial archive of past cartoons included as I launch this revision. I want the sense of a clean slate going forward.

It feels good to start fresh. Everybody needs a “reset” once in a while, and perhaps this new beginning will motivate me to respect my craft and my work to an even greater degree than before.

We shall see . . .

Sean Delonas is alive and well, although he doesn't work for a newspaper anymore. The New York Post fired him a couple years ago (not for that cartoon) and he took a hiatus for a while after that.

He does the American cartoons that are grotesque like British cartoons.

Not that this is in any way a new trend (or even a partisan one) but man with all this poo poo going on in the world, domestically and abroad, every single loving day, this many cartoonists think the most pressing commentary is on a comedian making a joke they got offended by?
Like, out of everything, that's what needs attention. Not the state of international climate change agreements, or EU attitudes towards the US and UK.

That's pretty much the same argument people pull out when some one complains about a comedian making a racist or sexist joke. People can be focused on many different things at once. And yeah they're also probably doing it to score cheap points or distract from Trump's garbage performance abroad, but that wouldn't change whether or not they're right for calling it egregious.

I mean, I agree the outrage is wrong. Defacing effigies of politicians is not particularly new and it's not like beheading has some particularly dark history in the US, unlike say lynching as political violence against black communities. But saying there's other poo poo to be mad about isn't a really good argument.
